Costea Bucioc
[edit]- ... that statesman Costea Bucioc, who reputedly survived a poisoning attempt at the Moldavian court, was later impaled by the Ottoman army? Dar destinul fiindu-i pecetluit, tot n-a reusit să se salveze de la moarte, deoarece în acelasi an (1620), Skender, pașa de Silistra – trimis de sultan să-l pună pe tron pe Alexandru Iliaș, în locul hainului Gaspar Grațiani – , crezându-l fidel fostului domn, a pus să fie tras în țeapă" ("the great power and prestige of [Bucioc's] family awakened a fear in the prince [Gaspar Graziani], who had 'made enemies' with the Ottoman Porte, going over to the Christian side, and who viewed Vornic Bucioc with suspicion [...]. Unwilling to confront him directly, he tried to poison him during a feast, asking him to stay over on purpose [...]. Costea Bucioc was nevertheless able to cure himself with a herb potion he had prepared in advance, dodging Gaspar Graziani's poisoning attempt. His fate was however sealed, because, during the same year (1620), Skender, the Pasha of Silistra—whom the Sultan had sent over to impose Alexandru Iliaș on the throne, in lieu of the enemy Gaspar Graziani—believing him a loyalist of the former prince, arranged for his impalement")
