Dump for a memorial?

[edit]

The comment that he died "leaving a dump for a memorial" may in fact be the case, but I suspect this phrase rings of some type of anger or bitterness at the physical condition of the island today. From an environmental standpoint, the area is certainly a mess--it's probably one of the most polluted places on earth--but the statement sounds somewhat unprofessional. I recommend removing it, or rephrasing it to reflect the legacy of pollution in some other way.--Bdmccray (talk) 02:13, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Area seems off

[edit]

The article says the area is 0.93 sq miles. I wonder where that comes from because it seems pretty off. Using the measuring tool on Google Earth, the eastern (longest) edge of the island is about 0.87 miles. Drawing a square around the island with sides of that length easily encompasses the entire island plus a good portion of the mainland, and even that is only 0.87 x 0.87 = 0.76 sq miles. If you use the same measuring tool to hug the shore until you've completely enclosed the island, Google Earth calculates the area to be about 0.53 sq miles. And, yes, I AM bored. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.238.167.162 (talk) 17:12, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
