Requesting Feedback
[edit]I've made changes to correct issues that were raised by the tags. I added inline sourcing to substantiate each point and rewrote many sentences to create a tone of neutrality. I would appreciate feedback from other editors to know how to approach the tags that still exist (Wiki layout guidelines and notability guidelines) and to see if there are other improvements that are needed to create the neutral tone. Notability
[edit]The subject appears to be the subject of several high-profile articles from several reputable news organizations. I have removed the notability issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.189.100.230 (talk) 04:00, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Requested Edits / COI
[edit]My name is Philip Lisio and I work The Foote Group, a PR agency for Zhang Lei (investor). I would like to request several changes/updates to the page in compliance with WP:COI. First, the current page has a sentence starting with "When Zhang was a teenager..." that has had a "citation needed" tag on it for quite some time. WP:BLP requires immediate removal of uncited content. I'd like to request editors either:
- Replace the sentence with cited content: “When Zhang was a teenager he sold magazines, noodles, and water at train stations"[1]
- Remove the sentence entirely, as WP:UNDUE. The article I cited in the prior bullet explains that Lei only earned $114.It seems more like anecdotal storytelling than a significant milestone in his life.
I am not aware of any citations available to support the current Wikipedia page's characterization of Lei being a "bulk distributor" of magazines as a teenager or making any connection between Zhang and Deng Xiaoping. I appreciate the time of whomever makes the time to consider the requests. Pinging @Bobbychan193:, who assisted in a prior edit request in case they are interested. Best regards. Phil2600 (talk) 18:14, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- I made changes for 1 and partially 2 and 3. Should acknowledge the original name of Hillhouse in terms of the company that was founded. Morbidthoughts (talk) 03:37, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Morbidthoughts: Thanks so much!! I have other changes I'd like to request as well if you don't mind reviewing a few more? Phil2600 (talk) 22:26, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
A few more requested edits
[edit]An impartial editor has reviewed the proposed edit(s) and asked the editor with a conflict of interest to go ahead and make the suggested changes. |
In compliance with WP:COI, I'd like to request a few more changes as follows:
- Change the "Social responsibility" section title to "Philanthropy", which more accurately describes the charitable donations described in the section.
- At the end of the "Philanthropy" section add: "In 2017, he donated another $43 million for an education fund for the school[2] and gave the commencement speech to the graduating class of 2017. Zhang also started the Hillhouse Academy, which focuses on the use of technology in business, in association with Renmin University.[2]"
- Correct several issues in the Early life and Education section regarding putting things in correct chronological order (internship first, then book translation), reworking copyrighted copy/paste content from the Financial Times, and adding more context regarding the role of his mentor, Swensen (it's a little odd to mention his internship without the fact that the whole internship was about working with Swensen). I've prepared a draft that would correct this issue below:

I know it's time-consuming to review someone else's proposed changes and appreciate whoever comes by to impartially review the changes. Pinging @Bobbychan193: and @Morbidthoughts:, who have both participated here previously. Best regards. Phil2600 (talk) 16:07, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
- I've fixed the chronological order. I agree it seems some more about Swensen should be added since various sources do mention that, but I won't do that (right now at least) since I'd have to think about the right way to do that. Could you point out where the copyrighted content is? Tristario (talk) 01:02, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Tristario: I can't seem to re-find the content that was copy/pasted from the Financial Times. It's possible it's already been changed.
- Below are excerpts from The Financial Times regarding Swensen being Zhang Lei's mentor. It says Lei was a student in Swensen's class in 1999, got into Swensen's internship, translated Swensen's book, that Swensen invested $30 million in Hillhouse (Lei's company), and that Swensen's teachings became part of Lei's investment philosophy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Phil2600 (talk • contribs) 00:39, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
Swenson in the source material
|
---|
"Swensen has been something of a mentor to Zhang since 1999, when Zhang took Swensen’s class at the Yale School of Management and won a coveted internship at the investment office." "Swensen saw the potential in his earnest student and taught him the art of investing. While at Yale, Zhang translated Swensen’s book..." "On his return to China, Swensen gave him an initial $20m from Yale to kick-start Hillhouse, with another $10m soon after." "His investment philosophy can be summed up as a mix of Swensen’s teachings along with those of the Buddha and the Taoist sages of China." |
- Go ahead: I have reviewed these proposed changes and suggest that you go ahead and make the proposed changes to the page. Actualcpscm (talk) 22:13, 19 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Actualcpscm: Thanks! I implemented the requested changes per your feedback. The "Education and early career" section has changed quite a bit since the original request, so I tried to surgically make the requested changes without interfering with any recent edits. Please let me know if I stepped out of bounds. Best regards. Phil2600 (talk) 00:51, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
