Are the two groups, Trinity and UAM related?

[edit]

Is the group at Arkansas - Monticello related to the group at Trinity College in Hartford or not? If the groups are not related, then given the relative youth of both groups, I would suggest that separate articles entitled something like Zeta Omega Eta (Trinity College) and Zeta Omega Eta (University of Arkansas - Monticello) be created with the name Zeta Omega Eta as a disambiguation page.Naraht (talk) 15:47, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, especially since the Trinity group has a shot at passing WP:GNG, where as the Monticello group does not. —C.Fred (talk) 16:35, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The two sororities started independently of each other during the spring of 2003. The Monticello group purchased the rights to zetaomegaeta.com, zetaomegaeta.org, zetaomegaeta.biz, zetaomegaeta.net and two others. During the fall of 2004, the UAM group, while posting information online, discovered the makings of the Zeta Omega Eta group at Trinity College. Belin contacted Boone and after much discussion merged the two groups. Both groups were founded on diversity, yet the Trinity College specifically focused on feminists’ issues and the UAM group focused on establishing a multicultural organization.

The UAM chapter had several problems becoming a recognized social sorority at UAM since the student affairs department kept changing the rules throughout the process. However on October 29, 2003, they were granted the title of a social-service sorority but could not necessarily associate with the other nationally recognized sororities on campus. During the late spring of 2004, the Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority, who already had an established chapter at UAM but without any members, contacted Zeta Omega Eta about taking over the Alpha Tau's on campus. After much debate and with the advisement of the four founding members, the majority of the undergraduate members chose to accept the Alpha Tau's offer and the Alumni members with several undergraduates continued to run the Alpha Chapter of Zeta Omega Eta as a post-graduate sorority.

The Alpha Chapter of Zeta Omega Eta of Monticello, Arkansas still exists but primarily works with incoming college students through scholarships, laptop donations, and mentoring rather than working as a social sorority within a university setting.

There is no current record of the Zeta Omega Eta group at Trinity College within the student life website. However, the former members do have a Facebook page for Zeta Omega Eta.

Also on a third note, the salon article mentions the University of Arkansas-Little Rock and this is inaccurate information.

And on a final note, one mention in one article posted on some online want-a-be newspaper doesn’t constitute a “credible” or “reliable” source. However, the minutes of a credited university’s general assembly meeting posted directly on that university’s website is a fact! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cmb121280 (talkcontribs) 06:24, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest

[edit]

Since Cmb121280 (talk · contribs) has admitted to being the founder of the Monticello group, I have placed a conflict of interest tag on the article and am reporting it to WP:COIN. —C.Fred (talk) 16:37, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh and if you look on your WP:GNG website you will notice the first sentence is "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article." The key word is SOURCES, which by the way is plural!!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cmb121280 (talkcontribs) 06:28, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
