Non-neutral language in first paragraph
I'm hesitant to edit the page without discussion since I know there's been controversy around the article, so I wanted to propose a couple changes to the lead for other editors to review. The suggestions are about the article's second sentence, which states: "Naik is renowned as a non-Arabic scholar, public orator, and scholar on comparative religion." The source is an award he won from the government of Saudi Arabia. Since government web pages are not neutral sources, I think we need to be wary of how it describes him. The two changes I suggest are:
- Change the word renowned to known, given WP:PEACOCK. The word renowned is also directly taken from the Saudi government source.
- Change the wording so to say "non-Arabic religious scholar and public orator who focuses on Islam and comparative religion." I think this phrasing avoids the suggestion that he has credentials in the academic discipline of comparative religion or publishes in scholarly journals dedicated to that discipline (the usual marks of being a scholar in an academic discipline). At the same time my wording doesn't dispute that he is a religious scholar/televangelist/apologist.
Let me know if there are any issues with this and if not I'll make the changes. Gazelle55 (talk) 22:54, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

The misspelling of his name
I noticed that the person's name was spelt "ज़किर" (zuh-kir) instead of "ज़ाकिर" (zakir) as it's meant to be spelt. could someone insert the "आ" vowel between the 1st 2 letters.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.75.45.165 (talk) 14:33, 26 July 2016
Zakir Naik says to the media that he has never been banned from giving a speech in any Malaysian state.
In this article, Zakir Naik said that he has never been banned from giving a speech in any Malaysian state. But in the controversy section of this article it is mentioned that he was banned from giving speeches nationwide. Should I remove these lines in the article or anything other? Grabup (talk) 15:29, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- A statement from state officials (police) on his ban can certainly be trusted over information provided by Naik on his own status, which is extremely WP:PRIMARY. Iskandar323 (talk) 16:45, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
Is he a doctor?
Is he really a doctor? First in his lectures he makes basic mistakes on medical matters.
But, he seems to have done his degree, but there is no evidence that he did the internship further training and board exams.
This being the case, he isn't a physician. Rustygecko (talk) 12:28, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
- No, since we have no reliable source stating that he ever practiced medicine in a professional setting, we cannot definitively say that he is a trained doctor. Iskandar323 (talk) 12:43, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
If you listen to his lectures and the things he says about medicine it is very clear that he doesn't have a degree in medicine. Is there any reliable source for his qualifications? Rustygecko (talk) 21:20, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

I hope everything is going well for everyone. I've decided to leave a comment today because I'd like to express my concerns about the current state of the article. Although the article contains mostly accurate information, unfortunately, the structure is very poor. I need as much help as possible to save and improve this article through restructuring, and any help is greatly appreciated. Xpërt3 (talk) 04:30, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

He is not Saudi

In the legal issues section, it says that Zakir is in Saudi Arabia after the intervention of King Salman. This stood out to me because I myself am Saudi. I know how strict and difficult getting a Saudi citizenship is naturalization outside of marriage almost does not exist in Saudi. Someone getting the Saudi citizenship by means other than marrying a Saudi citizen is something extremely rare. It is such a big deal that we hear about it in the news here when it happens, which again is very rare.
It is a confirmed fact that he's a permanent resident in Malaysia which has been controversial for a while. He goes to a few countries for tours and missions, but his primary residence in in Malaysia. India has been asking Malaysia to send him over to face legal prosecution for years, so official diplomatic records can back that up. During the beginning of his escape from India, many countries were named as mere guesses, but he shortly announced his location. For the last six years and through his lawyer and remarks from Malaysia itself. Example: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019/8/15/outrage-in-malaysia-as-zakir-naik-suggests-chinese-expulsion
It is ridiculous to see a claim that a controversial person wanted by law with a ton of baggage politically will be granted a citizenship by Saudi Arabia, a country that almost never grants citizenships, just for him to avoid prosecution... Oh, and it was offered to him by KING no less haha. What a wild claim!

Complete a reference
Reference 10 is incomplete -- lacking the author's name. Matthew J. Kuiper should be added as the author of the chapter "Zakir Naik and the Islamic Research Foundation", in the book Da'wa and Other Religions. 19:04, 7 December 2023 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hathilub117 (talk • contribs)
He is not a televangelist
according to Wikipedia a televangelist is someone who preaches (= gives religious speeches) on television in order to persuade people to become Christians and give money to religious organizations:
So really he preaches Islam Salahjun (talk) 17:47, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
- Naik is absolutely a televangelist. Although the word is customarily used for Christian TV preachers, by adding the adjective "Islamic" or "Muslim" (as in Islamic/Muslim televangelist), the problem is solved. 19:07, 7 December 2023 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hathilub117 (talk • contribs)
