There is the logo in Commons but not used here. Why is that? And, there is nothing but geometric shape and text, nothing that could be copyrighted. 85.217.36.130 (talk) 23:14, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

location

[edit]

According to a WHOIS by GoDaddy XVideos is registered to a Hong Kong address. All contact information GoDaddy has is also Hong Kong specific. However it seems that the actual registration information is coming from whois.networking4all.com. Godaddy and Whois.net both state that is where the results they display are taken from. 174.53.135.141 (talk) 20:46, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

High Importance

[edit]

I've bumped this up to high importance due to it being according to the article 'the most popular pornography website in the world'.

  • I restored the Low importance rating. The rating is for its importance to the pornography WikiProject. This is a website that is obscure outside pornography with an article that cites only one independent reliable source. If this deserves a High importance rating like AVN Award, please add citations to reliable sources to prove it. • Gene93k (talk) 16:22, 21 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @User:Gene93k. I found this page by surfing the stubs tabs. I am 14 and am not planning on doing any searching into this topic, but I can leave the source [[1]]. If it is the 50 most viewed website in the world I would say it is notable enough to be promoted. JoshMuirWikipedia (talk) 12:10, 24 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

popularity sources

[edit]

The current source for the popularity claim (Toppornsites.com) makes me instantly doubt the claim. The claim is supported by Alexa and SimilarWeb which I propose should be the references. --Markbrown00 (talk) 00:00, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Back here again

[edit]

Hello all, I'm back here again, wondering how this is not high importance. I've just come here from Lowest quality high-popularity articles, where this page is rated number 8. I will say it again, on a Wikiproject with over 300 articles that are high priority, the most popular website for viewing porn should be at least in there. JoshMuirWikipedia (talk) 07:39, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

The article's prose consists (in its entirety) of:

  • XVideos is a free pornographic video sharing and viewing website based in Prague.

There's nothing in the article copy to indicate why it's significant or notable. Alexa rankings are not part of web notability guidelines. I will re-add the tag. K.e.coffman (talk) 00:01, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request to update information (Updated)

[edit]

Hello, I believe that there should be a change in one piece of information here.

Instead of saying, "As of 9 March 2018, it was the 38th most visited website in the world."

It should say, "As of 22 March 2018, XVideos is the 5th most visited site in the world according to SimilarWeb."

The link is down below for credibility.

Is there a good reason to use SimilarWeb instead of Alexa Internet rankings? The latter seems to be the standard. Why are they so different? ~ Amory (utc) 14:55, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There is a difference on how these two groups figure out which site is the most popular. Alexa takes a combination of daily visitors and page views on a specific website for the past month to determine how popular it is. However, SimilarWeb strictly uses total visits in the past 6 months which I believe is a more accurate way to portray how popular a site is. For example, one person could visit a website and look at 10,000 pages on that particular website, now according to Alexa that would most likely be more popular than a website that has lets say 5,000 visits from different people. I just believe that SimilarWeb portrays a more accurate sense of which websites are more "popular" Pieman1395 (talk) 17:47, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: That's unnecessary. All website articles on Wikipedia use Alexa in the standard template. We cannot start looking for other rankers that rank one website higher so as to publicize it. See WP:PROMOTION. –Ammarpad (talk) –Ammarpad (talk) 19:28, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Censorship

[edit]

This site is banned in many countries. And that s not specific to it, as much of the pornographic sites are banned. Should we mentionned every country, or not? I ve tried to make a chapter on Iranese censorship, which has been refused. What s the difference with Chinese censorship? JeromRP (talk) 09:46, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, essentially there is no difference, so I have removed the censorship part as a whole, as virtually all countries banned or tried to ban pornographic pages as a whole. Might fit better in Pornography laws by region if it isn't mentioned there already, or a spin-off article concentrating on censorship of pornographic websites.
