Fair use rationale for Image:X-men-first-class-2006.JPG

Image:X-men-first-class-2006.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Continuity

As far as I was aware, it was a new, non 616-canon universe, but this article makes no mention of that. However, I don't read the book myself, so I'm honestly not sure. Fiercely agreed (on the article being *very* vague and confusing)... not just on this matter, but in general. I hadn't heard of this series when it first came out and just found out about it today. I came across this article through a link from the wiki page for X-Men: The Hidden Years, and that article implied a similar theme to this one (i.e. that it took place during the chronological period between UXM #66 and Giant-Sized X-Men #1, but that it took place in Marvel-616). But if that's the case, you wouldn't know it from reading this particular article. Homoaffectional (talk) 17:42, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

the comic book takes place from uncanny x-men # 1 - #7 since in x-men 1st class: finals #4 the team's graduation from the school is shown and is also shown in uncanny x-men #7 back in the 60's - so that the main storyline in x-men 1st class (the mini and the current ones) must take place before issue 7 and since jean is in all of the issues it has to take place after issue 1 of uncanny x-men -- and is far as fitting into the 616 universe it does, just like x-men hidden years and professor x and the x-men (if anyone remembers that comic book) the 1st class is told from the point of views of the students (the x-men) so any "errors" could be due to the "storyteller" and not because it's another universe -- it's just like the hidden years introducing storm and phoenix before (in the 616 universes timeline) giant sized x-men #1 and uncanny x-men #101 (the normal ie. real world issues that introduced them)also it should be noted that the last issue of x-men 1st class: finials #4 shows the team heading off to the events in giant size #1 so their is a jump in time (skipping uncanny # 8 - #66 plus all of x-men hidden years) so that it did not mess up any of the history

when uncanny x-men 1st class comes out (the continuation of this comic) it will more then likely cover the 15 month training that takes place in the pages of uncanny x-men #94

Marvel.com claims its in-continuity in this article: http://marvel.com/news/comicstories.1151 (School Is In Session For For New Ongoing X-Men: First Class!; Marvel.com): "Writer Jeff Parker and artist Roger Cruz are back with more in continuity stories about the early years of Xavier's first students and this time, it's an ongoing series!" Also, though I'm no continuity expert, even if X-Men: First Class contradicts old X-Men stories, that doesn't mean its non-continuity; it just means Marvel is modifying their continuity. Marvel acknowledges that stuff that happened decades ago isn't necessarily part of current continuity. If you'll remember over a decade ago, Marvel produced Spider-Man: Chapter One, treating it as the new, in-continuity origin of Spider-Man; contemporary Spider-Man stories than acknowledges it to solidify its in-continuity status. Fans ended up hating it, so Marvel decided to retcon it by producing The Untold Tales of Spider-Man, which explicitly took place in between early issues of Amazing Spider-Man, but the point remains that Marvel is willing to retcon early stories either to make the overall story more logical, or simply to sell books (and as far as X-Men: First Class, thank goodness for it). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.11.249.13 (talk) 07:49, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
