Is no one going to deal with the fact that the official lyrics are so very different from the recording?
[edit]The page references the official lyrics, but they depart significantly from the recorded version found on the album "Modern Times".
For instance, the verse after the first chorus are recorded as "Well I'm sailing on back ready for the long haul/ tossed by the winds and the leaves/ I'll drag them all down to hell and I'll stand them at the wall/ I'll sell them to their enemies". bobdylan.com has "I’m sailing on back getting ready for the long haul/ Leaving everything behind/ If I stay here I’ll lose it all/ The bandits will rob me blind/"
Surely there's something to research and explain, right? ZoneAlarm5 (talk) 14:34, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
- ZoneAlarm5 There are many instances of Dylan’s lyrics on the recording differing from the lyrics on his website. “Workingman’s Blues #2” is one of the most dramatic. If you would like to research and write about this, that would be terrific. Unfortunately I don’t have time right now, but I have added a summary of how R F Thomas has analysed connections between WMB#2 and Ovid’s Tristia. Best, Mick gold (talk) 13:08, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
