Why not also include William Windom's appearance in a Barney Miller episode, "Doomsday"? According to the tv.com summary of this episode, it first aired on September 11, 1975. Mino-wiijiindi (talk) 23:51, 3 August 2009 (UTC) Windom starred in an unsold television pilot Landon, Landon & Landon, as an undistinguished private investigator who is killed and returns as a ghost to help his two children find out who murdered him and why. Presented in 1980, the pilot never went to series. My only source for this is a personal one, as I had taped the show (on Beta format tape) and offered a copy to him. (Windom and I met in 1978 during his tour presenting works by James Thurber.) A "stub" on IMDB can be found here. I understand that Wikipedia does not prefer unverifiable, anecdotal information; I hope that the IMDB stub will help to verify the existence of the pilot, and if desired, I can provide more information regarding the plot, from memory (I'm not sure if I still have the tape, much less a player). The Star Trek PROBLEM

This article, like too many on here, gives too much weight to the subject's single (if memorable) appearance on Star Trek. That might be the best-known appearance amongst a certain segment of the population today, but it's not a fact, and his more recent regular role on the popular Murder, She Wrote series would probably be more familiar to many audiences than his Star Trek appearance. As the statement is not factual I suggest it be reworded to not sound as if it is such.MrNeutronSF (talk) 01:46, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

Death?

There's been rumors spreading for the better part of the last six or so hours that he's dead...and the only sources claiming so are here and Find A Grave, both of which are third-party. Where are the news stories? (I even saw one person - when I first heard of this supposed story on Facebook - claim that "we know the family".) I agree with this statement there is nothing on the web that cites that William Windom has passed away. Evev his offical website does not mention that he has died. Star Trek PROBLEM???

Mr Windom is very beloved by Trekkies (or Trekkers) worldwide for his role in the original series episode, The Doomsday Machine of Commodore Brand Decker. The importance of that episode is reflected by the presence in Star Trek the Motion Picture with the appearance of Captain Decker, Brand Decker's son. Alleged Death & WP:BLP

There is currently a bunch of unverified claims that William Windom has died sometime in the passed few days. Whether or not this is true, this article must have reliable secondary sources (News articles etc. are reliable, - Blogs etc. are not reliable) to back up these claims if (or when) they are added into the article. IF the subject has in fact died, he still is covered under the BLP policy, per WP:BDP, and requires RS, anyway. -- MST☆R ^{(Chat Me!)} 15:12, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Find a grave link

If you read the usage information at Template:Findagrave, you'll find that it is very specific as to when it is to be used. "To comply with WP:ELNO, only place in External links section if the website contains unique information not already mentioned and cited in the body of the article and is not a WP:COPYLINK violation. " The entry for William Windom at that site contains no new information not already in the article. It's not needed, and is an inferior reference source, so I took it out.—D'Ranged 1 ^talk 02:54, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

Tournament chess player info removed

Windom was an above-average tournament chess player -- not sure why this info was removed. Is there some policy that would account for this? And this information can be readily substantiated using USCF rating lists. I am putting it back until the reason for the removal is provided.--Jrm2007 (talk) 06:34, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
