Spillways

[edit]

Does anyone know when the spillways were constructed? Was that part of the navigation lock development? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots11:13, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What spillways? —EncMstr (talk) 15:04, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The ones constructed above the rocks. Note the nicely straight edges observable in the aerial photo. That kind of thing does not occur in nature. I assume that construction was done to regulate the water flow, kind of like they did with Saint Anthony Falls in Minneapolis. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots17:06, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, this item [1] indicates those things were constructed to divert water into the hydro power systems. Obviously, when the water level gets high enough, water goes over those dams, which is why I called them "spillways". I'm just curious when that construction was done. They are visible in photos my father took in the 1930s. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots17:17, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
