Need to move

[edit]

The Waipā District Council now spells its name with a macron (see official website link), and since they're the authority on what their own name is we should move the article to reflect this (with a redirect from the old name of course). The Māori name's Waipa does not include a macron, probably because the Waipa District (name made official back in 1989) does not. No doubt this will be rectified in time, as has happened with other District Councils around NZ, but in the meantime the local body can certainly decide how it wants to spell its own name. —Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 00:36, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oh that's interesting: the macron and name change is actually a significant story in itself; worth discussing and citing in the article. —Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 01:22, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 26 August 2023

Waipa District CouncilWaipā District Council – The official name by LINZ calls this the Waipa District, but the council and media all include a macron. I think we can make an exception to WP:NCNZ like we did for the Kāpiti Coast District. Panamitsu (talk) 04:45, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
