[edit]I mistakenly reverted 205.188.116.66's edit on September 3, thinking they copied the entire article once again (which, admittedly they didn't). However, while their latest edit seems to have been re-written so that it isn't entirely a carbon copy of the website in question, the re-write is still rather poorly written and structured (as is 205.188.116.xx's usual style, no offense to them). If anyone wants to restore 205.188.116.66's edit (as a properly written and structured article), go ahead. (I probably won't get around to this task anytime soon.) - Hinto 20:41, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
- 205.188.116.66 had decided to copy the content from [1] again, and again interspersed content from that page with his/her own poorly articulated additions. I've attempted to re-word the article so that it sounds less like a direct copy from the aforementioned site; if you don't think it's enough, either re-word it further or just delete the whole thing and start from scratch (though I have a feeling 205.188.116.xx will do his/her thing again should that happen). - Hinto 02:51, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
WHTX-LP channel number
[edit]The article states WHTX-LP is channel 43, however the FCC information gives the channel for WHTX-LP at channel 10. Jimtrue 11:16, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Analog-to-digital conversion
[edit]There is nothing in this Wikipedia article that discusses the analog-to-digital conversion, or CSA with WUTH. Can anyone expand on these? Seven1672 (talk) 19:14, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
Merge proposal
[edit]@Sammi Brie, Nathan Obral, MrSchimpf, Wcquidditch, and BlueboyLINY: I propose merging WUTH-CD into WUVN. Even though WUTH-CD is the host station in the channel-sharing arrangement, it's not notable on its own, but it's at least worth a brief mention at WUVN. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 03:58, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- Your ping didn't hit because it was after the fact. You are probably right here, though. The history seems to be WXTV translator, sold to Entravision after it bought WUVN, Telefutura at launch. The concern I'd have is that this article's scope already is a little unwieldy, and WUTH-CD's history would become a footnote. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 17:40, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- Well, I tried it, @Mvcg66b3r. It's a small footnote, and it works. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 01:48, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

I'll take this one! It's very long, so might take some time, and I'll go section-wise. DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 07:24, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
Lead
[edit]Woww, six paras.
- First,3rd,4th, 6th para-fine
- Second para- "Hartford's channel 3":"Hartford's VHF channel 3" (if that is what it is trying to say)
- Yes, and I've spelled out UHF and VHF.
- Fifth para- "as the market's third independent": is there a word missing
- In this case, "independent" is short for "independent station". I will never use just "independent" on first reference but may on second and later.
- I might go through it again after reviewing the body too, but till then, is there anything in "In 1960, RKO General acquired WHCT ... outside of sports broadcasts." these 2.5 paras that can be shortened- the lead is kinda long?
- This is a massive lead, the longest I've ever written and probably ever will write, and it's longer than frankly should be recommended. You may be able to see why once you read the prose. The station's history divides into five broad buckets, which are the way the lead is structured beyond paragraph 1 and also the first five level-2 headings. These are the early years, when the station was a network affiliate and in the immediate aftermath of the CBS exit; RKO's ownership and Phonevision; Faith Center ownership; the Astroline era including the six years of silence from 1991 to 1997; and Entravision ownership with Univision programming beginning in 2000. The transitions between them are very clear-cut in terms of programming orientation, too. I really would like, once you're done reading this, an outsider's view of how this might be structured in fewer paragraphs. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 18:59, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
Early years
[edit]- All fine
- Half a suggestion and half a joke, but have you thought about making and adding a flowchart to explain all this?
RKO General ownership and subscription TV test
[edit]- "By 1965, there were 5,000 subscribers, the cap set, and the only new users were being added to replace subscribers who discontinued service.":... "a cap was set", and grammar seems to be wrong for the subsequent part
WUVN: Entravision ownership
[edit]- "a practice since abolished": the hearings, or the avoidance of hearings?
- I assume nothing happened between 2003 and 2017?
- Very much so. This station has had a very quiet history since.
WHTX-LD: From Hartford to Springfield
[edit]- Can you either change the heading or add something to state that it became a satilite for WUVN, it seemed unrelated for most of the paragraph
Entravision moved the station to channel 43 in Springfield and signed the new WHTX-LP on the air in November 2003 as a semi-satellite of WUVN.
It's already there, but I added a new item at the start.
Subchannels
[edit]All fine
Images and References
[edit]- References all fine
- Images- Any possibility of more images?
- I wish. The original studio building on Asylum in Hartford is still standing and is now loft apartments for artists. Unfortunately, I've never been to Connecticut and don't know anyone from there who could take a picture of it.
Faith Center ownership
[edit](this was wild from start to finish)
- citing the narrowness of the proposed programming as similar to a radio format: reword, bcs what is this supposed to mean?
- Reworded
- Bloomfield: Hartford might be better? or Bloomfield (a suburb) (to save a click on the wikilink)
- Added "the town of".
- Meanwhile, Faith Center merged with Hartford Gospel Tabernacle, a local church, in 1973; the church was renamed the Faith Center of Hartford and disaffiliated from the Assemblies of God.[94] The church affiliation had been dissolved by 1977.[95]: This seems irrelevant?
- It's a little unusual. Also consider that the church status of Faith Center comes up a lot in later years.
- instead found itself $3.5 million in debt:did I miss something, how did it go in debt?
- About two-thirds down the left column. I made a minor reword but I should be on the nose with the sourcing.
- The complicated ownership structure of Television Corporation of Hartford, with Valentine as the deciding shareholder, raised questions as to whether minority ownership or Valentine's affiliation with Television Corporation of Virginia would prevail in making decisions.: kinda confusing- does this mean if Valentine would work in the corp's or his own interest?
- @DoctorWhoFan91: Correct! Read it this way. Herman Valentine was the kingmaker between Television Corporation and TELACU in the ownership structure. He worked for Television Corporation but was a minority like TELACU (this is crucial as it results in the majority-minority ownership composition necessary to qualify to buy under distress sale). If he sides with his employer every time, is the company really going to be majority-minority? Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 18:25, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
Astroline Communications ownership
[edit]all fine (though using a single harv ref is certainly a choice[Joke])
Lead
[edit]it's actually mostly on point, but I think you can remove the following lines
- "With no need for a test and ...": Replace with "Having ..."
- " The first proposed buyer, California-based TELACU, withdrew after its financial backers pulled out in the wake of reporting on the organization's mismanagement.": Might be too much detail, you can remove it, I think
- " ... independent. By this time, WTXX and WTIC-TV (channel 61) had established themselves in this marketplace, and channel 18 was ...": "... independent; WTXX and WTIC-TV (channel 61) were already established in this marketplace, so channel 18 was ..."
Spot-check
[edit]Checking every 15th ref
- [3]: assigned channels 3 and 18
- [17]: File petition Against New VHF Outlet
- [31]: revenue loss of $185,600 a year
- [46]: premiers a half-hour program
- [61]: the nights the New York Mets team are playing
- [76]: in the next 18 months
- [91]: 500-foot tower
- [106]: 65 hour sleepless vigil
- [124]: Probe May Hinder Purchase of WHCT
- [136]: economic viability ... about to get a second, WTIC
- [152]: Channel 18 Joins United Cable Viewing Roster
- [166]: effort to get out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy
- [181]: signed off the air about 4 p.m.
- [197]: $ 125,568,545
- [214]: 43-1 ... Univisn Univision
Overall
[edit]It's big, so that's the remarks for now, will review the actual prose in a day or a few days. Though, could you split some of the paragraphs- they are hard to read when this large- 8-10 lines (on a PC) max per para should be okay. DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 18:41, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
Sammi Brie review of just the two largest sections left. Mostly minor issues till now. Could you split the really long paragraphs (10+ lines) into shorter ones?
Review done, except the lead. I'll suggest changes to that in probably 8-10 hours. (You should take this to FA too, btw, really great article) DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 18:46, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comment. This is one of a few articles on my GAN docket that are probably FA-bound someday. WOI-DT and WPGH-TV are each beasts. WTVJ (a collaboration with Nathan Obral) is a double beast; at 8800 words, it'd be the second-longest GA I've ever produced. (The longest? Well, it became an FA: WWJ-TV.) Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 19:30, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
Sammi Brie, just a few words that could be removed in the lead; they are not fully needed, so I will pass it in a few minutes- you can decide to make the changes or not. DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 07:18, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- I decided to do so, since I'm looking for any way to streamline that lead. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 07:41, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Did a spot-check, everything fine (and from reading them, the article is very concise, even at 7500 words). As always, great work, happy to pass. Congratulations, Sammi Brie DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 07:48, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
January 2025
[edit]@Sammi Brie: Can you add a mention that WUVN doesn't cover the entire market since it piggybacks on WUTH-CD? I wanted to add it myself, but I don't want to mess up a potential good article. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 16:13, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

Overall: @Sammi Brie: Recently upgraded to GA status, no problems with the article, and a pretty interesting hook. The ALT1 hook isn't really interesting while ALT2 would be an okay replacement. The first hook is obviously the best. Jon698 (talk) 09:01, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
