Notation

[edit]

The most common notation for the Vietoris-Rips filtration, by far, is Rips(X). In fact, perhaps this page should be moved to "Rips filtration," since it is called the Rips filtration at least as often as the Vietoris-Rips filtration. Other less common notations include R(X) and VR(X) (using cursive R and bold VR), but Rips(X) is still the most common. I don't think writing "Vietoris-Rips(X)" adds any clarity to the page, nor does it align with what a reader would find if they pursue the links in the references. If Wikipedia has a standard regarding mathematical notation, I welcome someone to share it with me. Khmccabe (talk) 03:10, 7 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
