No split ?

[edit]

@UnitedStatesian: Do you have a citation for a reliable source that Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe (UMP) was split up? I have been unable to find any. The official "Provinces in Zimbabwe" webpage for Mashonaland-East still indicates that it is a single district. See also the Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe Zvataida Rural District Council webpage. The notion that the UMP district was split up was introduced by an IP editor on 19 April 2018 with this edit, without citation. I rather think that we should correct this, if no reliable source is forthcoming. The only mentions of a split that I have found online are Wikipedia derived. Newspaper reports about UMP over the past two years all refer to it as a single district, with two legislative constituencies, Uzumba Constituency which consists of the Nakiwa, Uzumba, Muswe, Nyadiri, and Karimbika areas; and Maramba-Pfungwe Constituency which consists of the Mutawatawa, Borera, Dindi, Kafura, Chitsungo and Mutawatawa areas. I suspect that the IP editor may have conflated the district with the constituencies. --Bejnar (talk) 22:14, 13 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

UzumbaUzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe –   In April 2018, an IP editor added the information that the district had been split into Uzumba District and Maramba-Pfungwe District, but did not provide any citation, much less one to a reliable source. On 11 February 2021, editor UnitedStatesian moved the article from Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe to Uzumba, apparently based on this change made by the IP editor. I have searched exhaustively, I believe, and have not found a reliable source that indicates any split in Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe (UMP); in fact, quite the opposite. Official sources in the Zimbabwe government still refer to it as Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe (see above Talk:Uzumba#No split ?) or just UMP, as do news stories arising within the district. All of the sources that I found that mention such a split are Wikipedia derived. Assuming the nobler motive, I believe that the IP editor conflated the two constituencies with the single district. Given the lack of reliable sources for such a split, and the extant reliable sources for the uniary district, I believe that this article should be moved back to Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe, and the spurious "split text" removed. Support Move I agree with the proposed moved, apologize for making the now apparently unwarranted initial move, and thank @Bejnar: for doing the work to sort everything out. UnitedStatesian (talk) 06:11, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
