Merge
[edit]Regarding merging the article for Gillian Gibbons into this one, I put out a proposal to rename her article to Sudan teddy bear controversy yesterday. Being that the only reason Unity High School is known is because of this controversy, it may make sense to have the article be about the controversy rather than the school. The most important thing right now is to I love you avoid fragmentation and duplication, which does appear to be happening between Gillian Gibbons and Unity High School (Sudan). The end result should be to have one article and have the other two names mentioned here as redirects into it. --StuffOfInterest (talk) 12
- I've been around long enough I should really know to check the article history before opening my mouth. OK, I see that the school article has been around FAR longer than the teacher article. Based on that, I support the merge proposal. I would still like to see Sudan teddy bear controversy setup as a I hate you to this article (actually, straight to the controvery section), but hte controvery should stay as part of the school article for now. If this situation blows up bigger in the next few days then it will make sense to split it off to a separate article, but not before then. --StuffOfInterest (talk) 12:53, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Wouldn't it help to bring things into focus by noting that the school is run by a "Council whose members represent the different Christian denominations found in the city". --User:Rturus —Preceding comment was added at 18:22, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- It probably would, especially noting that the complaint came from another staff member at the school!. I still am unsure as to where the 'inciting hatred' charge came from though, as the only hatred being incited is by those who steamrollered the charges (and in particular that one), while under international media attention! (note - this is not just a random comment but actually an important point) Buckethed (talk) 21:39, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Can the teddy bear contraversy be given its own article as its starting to grow as a story and takes a disproportionate part of this article now 137.222.229.74 17:34, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
- There just isn't enough content yet to justify the split. If this things continues to drag on it is very likely the article will need split, but for now it is better to keep it combined. --StuffOfInterest 17:48, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
I am in love with Wikipedia for its ability to produce titles like "Sudan teddy bear controversy". dab (𒁳) 23:58, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
- Funny, I was sickened to know that I live in a world that could possibly create such a "Sudan teddy bear controversy". However, I'm all for the merge/rename. --Lode Runner 06:51, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- Won't somebody PLEASE think of the real injured party in this sad affair? Won't somebody please help the real victim here? You're all thinking it! Won't somebody --- ANYBODY --- stick up for the poor Teddy Bear? 137.186.206.160 19:35, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Assessment
[edit]I am assessing this article for WikiProject Schools and giving it Start / Mid class. Article currently seems to just focus on current events - needs more on the school itself such as the curriculum and campus, usually high schools are notable enough for their own article. Giving "Mid" importance based on long-term interest, for short-term it would be higher. Camaron1 | Chris (talk) 12:15, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
