One for two?
[edit]Hi, what is the difference between this subject and https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Fundamental_attribution_error , if any? Merge? T 88.89.219.147 (talk) 12:46, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, 88.89.219.147! I claim no expertise, but based off this article, it appears that the ultimate attribution error is about individual perceptions of ingroup vs. outgroup members, while the fundamental attribution error is about individual perceptions of other individuals. I think you can possibly argue for a merge on the basis that the references of this article don't hold up. Me, Myself & I (☮) (talk) 13:02, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi you guys :) Thx for the clarification, no expert myself, just wiki-meandering. On closer reading of course you are right. I see there is an article "Attribution" with a "Bias and errors" section. In this, the Fundamental AE is listed, while the Ultimate AE is not; unless it is the same as the listed "Actor/observer difference". Searching for this gives the article "Actor-observer_asymmetry", which at first glancce, fwiw, looks to be about the same.
- Just to be on the safe side, there exists an article "Attribution bias" with a section 4 "Types", listing 4.1 FAE and 4.2 Actor-observer bias" (which itself links to "A-O-assymetry" as main article)
- Also, "Attribution" and "FAE" are listed under the "See Also" link lists on a number of pages, while I can't see the UAE listed anywhere.
- IOW, there seems to be a generic subject Attribution, with a subset of "bias and errors", containing the members "group attribution bias" and "individual attribution bias", where the individual is covered by two pages (FAE + AOA), and the groups by the UAE page, which, however, is not linked in with the others ...? I suspect this requires a possibly extensive reorganization and rewrite. I'll better pass on that, being neither a topic expert nor a native English user.
- Or, one easier way out may be to just link the UAE page in with the others?

- @88.89.219.147: No problem! I'm glad to have you around. I do hope you'll stay – this project needs more people to point out problems and help with cleanup. (If you do decide to stay, I and many other editors are happy to help!)
- I've checked out the articles you mentioned, and Attribution (psychology) does not link to Ultimate attribution error anywhere, so if you want, you could try adding a section. If you're not an expert, you can request the addition of it on the talk page. In Attribution bias, UAE is linked in the lede but not in the list section, but I'll add it and see what people think. Fundamental attribution error links to UAE in the See also section, and so does Group attribution error. It's true that Actor–observer bias links to FAE but not UAE in its See also, but that may be because it was judged not to be as relevant (likewise, GAE was left out). Many of these articles are start-class with multiple cleanup tags, and read a bit like student essays at times, so you are very correct in your suspicions. I don't work with content myself (I mostly fix language, Manual of Style and formatting errors), so contacting members of Wikiproject Psychology would be best.
- I apologize for not being of more help in that department. Once again, glad to have you around, and happy editing! Me, Myself & I (☮) (talk) 01:59, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi,
- I left a note over at the Attribution talk page. I guess top-down is the way to go here.
