Not every ubosot has its entrance towards the east

[edit]

Considering only all 38 Wats that are located within the old city walls of Chiang mai, I see many of them with an other orientation than east.

  • North (5): Wat Dok Ueng (วัดดอกเอื้อง), Wat Khuan Khama (วัดควรค่าม้า), Wat Mai Tang (วัดเมธัง), Wat Meun Ngeun Kong (วัดหมื่นเงินกอง), Wat Si Koet (วัดศรีเกิด).
  • West (1): Wat Mo Kham Tuang (วัดห์ม้อคำตวง).
  • South (2): Wat Chai Phra Kiat (วัดชัยพระเกียรติ), Wat Phuak Taem (วัดพวกแต้ม).
  • North for nuns and South for monks (1): Wat Phra Singh (วัดพระสิงห์วรมหาวิหาร).

And finally the following Wats have No Ubosot (11): Wat Monthian (วัดมณเฑียร), Wat Pha Bong (วัดผาบ่อง), Wat Inthakhin Sadue Muang (วัดอินทขีลสะดือเมือง), Wat Dok Kham (วัดดอกคำ), Wat Phan Tao (วัดพันเตา), Wat Chedi Luang (วัดเจดีย์หลวงวรวิหาร, but there is a former ubosot building facing the east), Wat Phan On (วัดพันอ้น), Wat Fon Soi (วัดฟ่อนสร้อย), Wat Jedlin (วัดเจ็ดลิน), Wat Chang Taem (วัดช่างแต้ม), Wat Sai Moon Myanmar (วัดทรายมูล [พม่า]).

So only 27 out of 38 Wats have an ubosot and ⅓ of them are not facing the east.

Phra ubosotUbosotPhra is an unnecessary honorific. It can and should be removed.
Notes: Phra is an honorific in Thai. It can literally be translated as holy, excellent, etc. It is used for gods or god-like figures (Buddha, priests, etc.) as well as things relating to them (sculptures, places, etc.). The main noun is ubosot. iudexvivorum (talk) 18:13, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge with Ordination hall

[edit]

Articles about the same subject. Ubosot is the older article, but Ordination hall follows WP:USEENGLISH and has wider international scope. Paul_012 (talk) 08:23, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing as there appears to be clear consensus, I've merged the article to Ordination hall. --Paul_012 (talk) 22:06, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
