The result of the move request was: Move. It appears the official name is also the common one. Cúchullain t/c 19:31, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
- Tennessee–Martin Skyhawks → UT Martin Skyhawks
- Tennessee–Martin Skyhawks football → UT Martin Skyhawks football
- Tennessee–Martin Skyhawks men's basketball → UT Martin Skyhawks men's basketball
– The University of Tennessee at Martin athletics sports information page states: "The name of our institution is The University of Tennessee at Martin and if abbreviated, should be referred to as UT Martin. The University of Tennessee at Martin should be used as the first reference in a news story. UT Martin should be used in subsequent references and UTM is acceptable in headlines. Tennessee-Martin, UT-Martin, UT or Martin should never be used. The description Skyhawks should be used to represent all UT Martin athletic teams. Lady Skyhawks or ‘Hawks should never be used." Thus, Wikipedia should use the school's preferred branding for all related articles, while noting that ESPN and national media sometimes use "Tennessee-Martin" like in the Omaha Mavericks article. - Support move, but only on the grounds of WP:COMMONNAME. The official name has no bearing on my support. ONR (talk) 18:07, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
- Support, but like ONR said, only per WP:COMMONNAME. We don't go by 'what the school wants to be branded by', unless it is in fact the common name. A local newspaper and TV station use UT Martin, as well as Yahoo! Sports, CBS Sports, Fox Sports. If someone simply wants to base an opinion (oppose) by a quick Google search, Tennessee–Martin destroys UT Martin by 360,300. As the nom said above, ESPN uses Tennessee–Martin, as well as the NCAA and USA Today. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 19:29, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose - The only issue is Commonname, of course. I'm not too persuaded by local media usage, if for no other reason than local consumers of local media will already know that UT refers to Tennessee, and not Texas, Tallahassee or Timbuktu. I oppose at this point because Commonname does not appear to demand a change (tolerates it at best), and the only particular reason for the change is the school's branding preference.
