2016 vs the Ranking in general
[edit]This is a great article, but I'd like to flag up the fact that it's heavily based on the 2016 season, rather than the UCI World Ranking itself. In other words, much of the information concerning current rankings and teams and riders should probably be moved to 2016 UCI World Ranking and a new one written as an overview of the system and how the points work. See for instance the difference between the article for the World Tour and the 2016 World Tour. JamKaftan (talk) 16:28, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, JamKaftan, I think the 2016-bias stems from the fact that this is a new for 2016 ranking. In theory, there wouldn't be a 2016 UCI World Ranking as this is a rolling ranking, the leader at the end of 2016 is the leader at the start of 2017. Realistically there could be a 2016 Year-end Ranking leader XyZAn (talk) 17:23, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
- That seemms bizarre, XyZAn. If that's how the system works, and it had been around since about 1995, would Armstrong still be leading now? JamKaftan (talk) 19:40, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
- JamKaftan, no because it over a rolling 52 weeks - like the WTA and ATP rankings in tennis. XyZAn (talk) 19:52, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information XyZAn. JamKaftan (talk) 20:31, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

Misleading title and article
[edit]This is article about UCI World ranking and yet there is no information older than 2016. Are you implying that one of the oldest (professional) sports only recently, after 110+ years of history started to rank its athletes. As first sentence says, revamped so I guess it existed before 2016.
So either expand this article or rename it, cause this is half-assed job. Surprised it wasn't deleted. 213.149.61.164 (talk) 01:14, 26 November 2018 (UTC)
Misleading title 2
[edit]UCI keeps World ranking for individuals (m/w) and teams (m/w) for
- road https://www.uci.org/road/rankings
- track https://www.uci.org/track/rankings
- mtb
- bmx
- cyclocross https://www.uci.org/cyclo-cross/rankings
- trials https://www.uci.org/trials/rankings
Cycling is comprised of more than one discipline, it's not just road cycling. Title should be something like World ranking for road cycling 213.149.61.164 (talk) 01:46, 26 November 2018 (UTC)
UCI tinkering with rankings
[edit]I am wondering how best we should to go about this article now that UCI have again changed the points allocation, and have split the rankings into one day and stage races. According to WP:RECENT, the previous points allocations are just as encyclopaedic as the new ones, but if we have the 2016-18 points table, and give equal prominence to the 2019-20xx, and no doubt, then the 20xx-20yy numbers, the page will be an unnavigable melange of numbers.
We also now have separate One Day and Stage race rankings, so the current table will need to be finished out and two more tables started. Unless there is some reconfiguring and rationalisation, we will have more tables that the banquet at a royal wedding.
Thoughts? Kevin McE (talk) 22:46, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
World Rankings 2009-2015?
[edit]2009 UCI World Ranking article starts with "The 2009 UCI World Ranking is the first edition of the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI)", so this article should start from there. The above-mentioned ATP & WTA have also changed their ranking systems few times, but still Wikipedia lists have all who were number-one ranked from the beginning. Why not same here? 109.240.237.2 (talk) 03:07, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
- According to this article, the ranking started in 1948. So, where are the leaders from 1948 to 2015? There is some kind of descriptions of the older ones, but nothing of the riders themselves. 193.210.196.227 (talk) 15:22, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
