Merge articles on individual colonies into this article
[edit]All the articles listed in the merge template are very short stubs, contain repetative information, and are likely to never be anything more than stubs (unless visited by the television series). This article seems as good as any for containing what little information about them exists. Planets not listed in the merge are Caprica, New Caprica and Kobol -- Run! 21:48, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- Since there's been no reply in nearly two weeks I'm going ahead with the merge. There are only three worthy items of interest I could find from the planet articles, and they look somewhat out of place, so they will need attention. -- Run! 11:09, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
Fanfic
[edit]Please do not post your own personal fanfiction into actual content from this show.
BSG Designator
[edit]How do we know that BSG stands for Battlestar Group instead of Battlestar Strike Group? Has it been stated explicitly? If it hasn't, I would assume that it would be the latter similar to a CVSG in the US Navy. --Burzum 16:17, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
constellations
[edit]what constellation represents Earth? and Kobol? Does the 13th Zodiac represent one of them? Ophiucus
The constellations and their references are the reason I was rather shocked to read here that all 12 colonies were supposedly in the same star system. I'v been watching the new series since it premiered, and it always seemed to me that the Colonies were a much larger "alliance" than just 12 planets in a single star system. And while I grant that this is indeed science fiction, it stretches believability to suggest the possibility of 12 habitable planets in a single star system. Were it not for Ron Moore's comments to this effect, I would have suggested the Colonies were 12 distinct star systems. Toroca 20:43, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps there is a large habitable zone around the central star, and a close in gas giant with habitable moons... It could be that a large gas giant in the habitable zone has several habitable moons, and that Caprica and another planet are Tojans of the gas giant... 70.51.8.242 03:44, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes, yes, and yes. As I noted elsewhere, The OFFICIAL Roleplaying game explains it all. Habitable moons around a central gas giant. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.179.30.13 (talk) 03:27, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't make any sense at all that all twelve colonies would be in the same system. Why would they have interstellar-drives and only live in one system? That's like having a private jet and infinite money and only using it to zip around the borders of Waco Texas. If you had ships that could take you anywhere in the galaxy would you all crowd around the same place? Even the Razor movie seemed to indicate that there must have been many more. Also Why have different bases like Ragnar anchorage scatered in the middle of nowhere if every part of the colonies is in the same system. This idea is not as crazy as the 1970s version idea that humans would travel to another galaxy to find a home (do you know how big a galaxy is? You probably woulnd't have to travel 10% of a galaxy to find a suitable place to live). It's never made any sense to me that after thousands of years having the ability to instantaneously travel to other stars and hundreds of ships equiped with that ability, and having fought an interstellar war, that they would all live in one system, especially given the fact that they've been living aboard ships for 4 years. And has anyone put in a citation for that claim? I have never heard or read of Ron Moore saying that other than on this annoying post in Wikipedia.--WilliamXXXX (talk) 21:29, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- That bit about the two colonies orbiting Ragnar at its lagrange points is not correct. They are the lagrange points in relation to the system primary, so effectively the two colonies are worlds at trojan points preceeding and following Ragnar in its orbit. They would therefore orbit the system primary like Ragnar and not orbit Ragnar itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.148.43.180 (talk) 08:43, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Merge with list of reimagined BSG locations
[edit]User:Kintetsubuffalo suggests that Twelve Colonies and List of Battlestar Galactica (re-imagining) locations be merged together.
- Oppose this article contains info on both the original and reimagined versions, whereas the list article contains only the reiminagined versions. Further merging the list here would be bad since the list contains non-Twelve Colonies stuff (rather most of it is not part of the Twelve Colonies) 70.51.8.242 03:42, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
gemenon or geminon (or gemonon)? / Sagittaron or Sagitarron?
[edit]They all seem to be used in the article... is there purpose behind the different spellings? At the moment, the table list the new series using "gemi" whereas the description below uses "geme"... and is it really different in spelling from the first series?
One would think it was spelt like Gemini_(astrology) and therefore they should all be "gemi", in the old and the new... unless the writers wrote differently...
At the UN Conference, the colony was spelled Sagitarron, not Sagittaron. I don't what this original source picture is from that is cited, but the UN event was handeled by SciFi, which may have more credibility. All other colonies matched their spellings.
official roleplaying game
[edit]I checked it out at a B&N, and yes all 12 colonies are in a single system. Whoever is in charge of this page can check out a copy for themselves. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.179.30.13 (talk) 03:24, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- I just got a copy of the book as well. Since it is officially licensed, I think that its description of the star system and the histories of the Colonies should be incorporated into this article. Any thoughts on this? Early frosts (talk) 04:15, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Twelve-Colonies-Flag.gif
[edit]Image:Twelve-Colonies-Flag.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I believe there's an error
[edit]It is Aerelon and Aquaria at Ragnar's Lagrange points, not Caprica/Gemenon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.209.144.16 (talk) 05:25, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
Boltar's father sounds like an Irish accent (same as that of the new President and former defence lawyer of Boltar, so there is some consistency here). He comments on how his son has attempted to disguise his accent. This article states that his accent was Yorkshire. Gammerz (talk) 14:58, 17 September 2010 (UTC)Gammerz
United Colonies of Kobol?
[edit]Can anyone show any evidence that the title "United Colonies of Kobol" is actually used? The passports in the series say "Colonies of Kobol" ([1]). --Philly boy92 (talk) 22:25, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
Colonial Vs. Human
[edit]In the original series, the survivors aboard the fleet (and I assume those of the Colonies before the Cylon attack as well) called themselves Human. Did the 12 Colonies and the survivors (of the re-imagined series) ever refer to themselves as Human or did they just call themselves Colonials ? --80.254.146.140 (talk) 14:11, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
