[edit]I removed the "prod" template since this is certainly a perfectly legitimate encyclopedic topic. However I removed the text, which is from http://web.mst.edu/~gdoty/poems/altaic/creation.html as an apparent violation of copyright. I also added a bit of text, another ref, a cat and stubbed.
But I wonder whether this article should be named instead Turkic mythology?

Expand
[edit]I expanded this artice some. I used materials from Murad Adji's book "The Kipchaks". And I also deleted "Turkey related article" stuff, 'cause it is about ALL turkic mythology, not only of Anatolian turks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.82.23.131 (talk • contribs)
- Good job. I've cleaned up the English and links a bit. Coyoty 16:48, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
The content of this page is utter travesty. It has nothing to do with Turkic Mythology or Tengriism. If you are really interested in this please check this web site: http://aton.ttu.edu/OLD_TURK_DEITIES.asp
yes
[edit]But I wonder whether this article should be named instead Turkic mythology?

Turkic mythology → Turkish mythology – Only looking at the Google Books searches show clearly that the academia prefer "Turkish mythology" about five times over "Turkic mythology". Wikipedia is not intended to create new terminology but to use existing ones in its contents. Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 15:11, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose. Turkish mythology is the mythology of the Turkish people who primarily live in Turkey; whereas Turkic mythology refers to the mythology of the wider Turkic peoples who have historically lived across a large area of Eurasia. This article explicitly refers to the mythology of Turkic people not Turkish people. BabelStone (talk) 16:40, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
- I think we are tying to impose our own criteria over the academia (and worse than that, even over "the facts of life") here, I will show you one example, just wait 5 minutes please. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 16:54, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
- Look at this weird thing I saw looking for these concepts, and corrected. Please don't tell me it is not related; it is related to a pattern of action in Wikipedia, seeing ourselves over anything, as this is the "Free" Encyclopedia. Thanks. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 17:01, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
- No, Wikipedia usage reflects established academic usage, where "Turkic" and "Turkish" are consistently distinguished. BabelStone (talk) 18:21, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose per User:BabelStone and WP:PRECISION. Wikipedia did not invent the term "Turkic" and the article (which could use a lot of work) deals with the mythology of all Turkic peoples or Turkic peoples in general and not only the Turkish people, i.e. the people of Turkey. Of course there are many Google books hits for "Turkish mythology" as this is the largest Turkic nation. And there is a great degree of overlap between the two topics (most Turkish mythology is Turkic mythtology). However, the title should correctly reflect the entire scope of the article. — AjaxSmack 18:12, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
- Comment how is this novel creation when you yourself say it is used in literature? Clearly if it is used, it is not a creation of Wikipedia. -- 65.94.171.126 (talk) 04:46, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

Section "Traces of Turkic mythology in Europe"
[edit]The section seems to be written in a non-encyclopedic tone, with personal observations. It also lacks references to reliable and current sources. KHR FolkMyth (talk) 20:40, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
