[edit]

I like hurricanes, apparently I just found this article when I'm quick-recreating an article for 1971 Odisha cyclone (a requested article - remember - and it was created by the creator of Narendra Modi's wife article), and I honestly think this should be rewritten. Something is wrong. TBH, this article might either be AfD'ed or just move into the draft space despite being years old now. SMB99thx my edits 06:59, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@SMB99thx: I can do this once I get some other things done (such as Central America), though I would put it in draft space. Also, these places are not very common, so I'm going to have to learn some Indian provinces like I know Haitian cities. I like hurricanes (talk) 12:10, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! SMB99thx my edits 12:11, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It doesnt need sending to draft space or AFDing - it just needs some work/love to bring it up to scratch and now is a good time since Climate of India (A parent article) is up for an FAR.Jason Rees (talk) 13:00, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yea, the article is fine for now. It's a similar structure to Sri Lanka and Myanmar. It's not perfect, but it's decent for now. Ideally it would be listed by year (instead of by state), and it would go back beyond 1990. โ™ซ Hurricanehink (talk) 14:23, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hurricanehink, Destroyeraa, SMB99thx, and Jason Rees: Should we use Amphan 2020's picture, or keep Odisha 99's picture? Amphan was more costlier, but Odisha 1999 was the strongest and most intense storm to ever hit India as a whole and MUCH deadlier than Amphan. I know that Odisha would probably be a better storm to haves its picture up here, but today, I would think they would be expecting Amphan. Cyclone Toby 00:29, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Cyclone Toby, I agree with Amphan. SMB99thx my edits! 00:42, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see why you couldn't use both if this article was developed properly.Jason Rees (talk) 02:03, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
hmm.. Jason Rees good point... Cyclone Toby 03:07, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As I said before, the list should go by year. We could have a lot more pics then (without listing pics for every single storm). โ™ซ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:47, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I agree with Hurricanehink.SovietCyclone (talk) 04:19, 12 December 2020 (UTC) @Hurricanehink: To fix this article, you can take help of Beraniladri19 Dam222 ๐ŸŒ‹ (talk) 07:28, 12 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Dam222: I'm too busy to fix up, still fixing 2020โ€“21 South Pacific cyclone season. You can ask HurricaneEdgar for help. Beraniladri19๐ŸŒ€๐ŸŒ€ (talk) 18:12, 12 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
meh. I'm probably just gonna do it as it was before but by year instead of state with some small adjustments before I go back to editing other things.stay safe, Cyclone Toby 14:13, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Cyclone Toby: 1999 Odisha cyclone??? Dam222 ๐ŸŒ‹ (talk) 17:14, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dam222: I'm gonna do 2000s, and then probably 1990s, maybe 1980s before going to other things. Stay safe, Cyclone Toby 17:53, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can you write the article out as prose, instead of having it in a table? Check out List of Arabian Peninsula tropical cyclones. โ™ซ Hurricanehink (talk) 04:05, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hurricanehink: I would, but I am busy - wait scratch that I kinda need to make two articles and turn two drafts into an article soo.. Stay safe, Cyclone Toby 12:27, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Remember, there is no deadline. So this is just for the future, rather than putting it in table form, you could just put it in prose, like "May 1, 2021 - Cyclonic Storm Foo struck Y, causing Z effects." โ™ซ Hurricanehink (talk) 13:31, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

So are my edits okay? Or I need to do some changes? SovietCyclone (talk) 06:05, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@SovietCyclone: Looks great! I personally believe that you might want to make the entries a little larger, but not way to large. 3 or 4 sentences would be fine. Also, don't forgot to add sources to your entries. Stay safe, Cyclone Toby 12:04, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay @Cyclone Toby:! I will do as soon as my classes are over.SovietCyclone (talk) 12:24, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Example

Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Hudhud

[edit]
Extremely severe cyclonic stormย (IMD)
Category 4ย tropical cycloneย (SSHWS)
ย
DurationOctober 7ย โ€“ October 14
Peak intensity185ย km/h (115ย mph) (3-min);
950ย hPaย (mbar)

Can we make such a listย ?? Dam222 ๐ŸŒ‹ (talk) 07:22, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Dam222: no, it should be more like
December 19, 2841 - [[Cyclone Majata]] makes landfall in Odisha, causing (flooding, high winds, etc.). More than 8429 buildings were destroyed, and more than 13,932 were damaged. (More effects, more effects).
Now don't make an exact replica of that, it's more of an example, but try to at least incorporate into the entries. See Hurricanes in Costa Rica, or List of Florida hurricanes (2000-present) for more examples. An infobox should not be needed to go into a list. Stay safe, Cyclone Toby 12:45, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, not every entry needs a track map and an image. โ™ซ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:38, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Cyclone Toby: Like tropical cyclones in India, should the following articles be made or table wise?

@Dam222 and Cyclone Toby: You can get some ideas from Typhoons in the Philippines, people have done a great job there and I'm thinking to do the same here. Beraniladri19๐ŸŒ€๐ŸŒ€ Talk 06:02, 1 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Should we also add animations of cyclones, if available? SovietCyclone (talk) 12:24, 1 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SovietCyclone: It would be better. Beraniladri19๐ŸŒ€๐ŸŒ€ Talk 17:50, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ideally we are looking to develop a list of all the tropical cyclones to have impacted India, Sri Lanka etc, like the ones in my userspace, rather than a list of something slammed together from various articles like Typhoons in the Philippines currently is.Jason Rees (talk) 04:57, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Tropical cyclones in India

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Tropical cyclones in India's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "IMDBT":

  • From 1998 North Indian Ocean cyclone season: "IMD Best Tracks Data ( 1990 - 2008 )". India Meteorological Department. 2009. Archived from the original on November 16, 2009. Retrieved July 16, 2009.
  • From 1998 Gujarat cyclone: "IMD Best Tracks Data ( 1990 - 2008 )". India Meteorological Department. 2009. Archived from the original on September 27, 2013. Retrieved July 16, 2009.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOTโšก 08:54, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Super Cyclonic Storm Corona: Not extended confirm but ip users.

There's several kind of protection

  • Only Wikipedia Users can edit protection
  • Only Extended Confirmed Users can edit protection
  • Only Admins can edit protection

Idk, but there could be more than I know and protecting it because ip users like to mess the pages and some users who don't have significant knowledge of editing also can mess the page. Beraniladri19 ๐ŸŒ€๐ŸŒ€ 15:07, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Defintion

[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

@Super Cyclonic Storm Corona: I feel that it is worth reminding you that this article/list is meant to talk about tropical cyclones in India and not Tropical Cyclones over the Indian Ocean. As a result, it is not relevant to add so much information about the naming of tropical cyclones over the Indian Ocean or the tropical cyclone scale used in the region.Jason Rees (talk) 14:37, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jason Rees: Well, it's important to add what does "Super Cyclonic Storm" mean and all that. ~~ ๐ŸŒ€๐•พ๐–š๐–•๐–Š๐–— ๐•ฎ๐–ž๐–ˆ๐–‘๐–”๐–“๐–Ž๐–ˆ ๐•พ๐–™๐–”๐–—๐–’ ๐•ฎ๐–”๐–—๐–”๐–“๐–†๐ŸŒ€ 14:39, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is relevant to give the content a sentence or two in a background section, but not a full-blown section. For example you don't see us defining what a category 5 hurricane is in List of Bermuda hurricanes or providing the whole history of tropical cyclone naming of the basin in the List of Western Australia tropical cyclones.Jason Rees (talk) 14:44, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup 2.0

[edit]

Super Cyclonic Storm Corona, Chlod, Cyclone Toby, HurricaneEdgar, Dam222, Jason Rees, This article needs an immediate cleanup, because this article doesn't look great with the list like format and looking very vague with too many sub-header. Can you guys suggest other than this list like format. Beraniladri19 ๐ŸŒ€๐ŸŒ€ 04:01, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We should have a table with Year, Cyclone Name, Date, Description like in a List of article Threecthreek (talk) 14:41, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Threecthreek, a table would be better than the current format. Also, I think the title should be changed into โ€œList of tropical cyclones in Indiaโ€ since it is not too different from other โ€œlist ofโ€ articles. Ididntknowausername(talk โ€ข contribs) 21:28, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
