Contested deletion

[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because... (your reason here) --Hmains (talk) 04:22, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is obviously a major storm, killing 400 people. NO reason at all to delete it. Hmains (talk) 04:22, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This page should not be speedily deleted because... (The page is clearly written about what Tropical Storm Washi is about and gives clear scientific details on what happened. This article is clearly good information extracted from reliable sources for it's kind. See: [1] As you can see here in the link that the info is very similar and that this article should indeed be kept on Wikipedia.) --99.141.244.33 (talk) 04:26, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This page should not be deleted because it's still a current event.71.79.102.159 (talk) 04:28, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This article is going no where. Some random IP from Mexico just plonked a speedy deletion tag on this article and got reverted by an impartial editor.Jason Rees (talk) 04:33, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

And here is one I found on Talk:2011 Pacific typhoon season ... Philippine Flood Survivors Are at Risk "Survivors of flash floods that killed more than 900 people in the southern Philippines are now at risk of contracting disease, health officials said" by Floyd Whaley December 20, 2011

PLEASE, this page needs more information since this is the worst/deadliest catastrophic single event of the year 2011!Dominicanarquia (talk) 13:02, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not to lessen the importance of Washi, but the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami holds that title this year. Either way, please be patient, there are only so many people willing to work on this article or who have time to do so. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 13:16, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That is why I have to undo Mr. Cyclonebiskit's changes and I don't believe they are unnecessary. People would be curious to compare with other storms.

Death toll?

[edit]

The links aren't working to verify the death toll of 2,546. I have other sources with a total of about half that. I tagged the death toll as needing a better source, since some of the sources were broken, and none of them that I read said 2,546 deaths. I'd hate for this to be a situation (like the 1881 Haiphong typhoon) where the wrong death toll on Wikipedia is perpetuated in other sources. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:36, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Hurricanehink: I did a bit of digging into Washis death toll myself and found that the 2546 is wrong and pure original research. This is because it assumes that all of the missing people in the Red Cross report (1074) were eventually declared dead, which in addition to their death toll of 1472 makes 2546. The NDRMCC final report provides a death toll of 1268 and states that 181 people were missing. Interestingly the typhoon committee provided a death toll of 1292 and states that 181 people were missing.Jason Rees (talk) 21:18, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So should we go with the typhoon committee total of "at least 1292"? We can't assume the missing people died unless a source says as such. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:48, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would probably keep it to the NDRMMC since all the deaths are heavily documented and is who we usually go with for Philippine TC's. Jason Rees (talk) 22:24, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
1292 is higher though, and presumably the typhoon committee gets their totals from someone in the Philippine government. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 22:26, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If 1268 is the final death toll, how did 210 people come back to life? YE Pacific Hurricane 22:35, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
