The name
[edit]The article currently states that "It is known as the Train of the Clouds because clouds can be often be seen around and under the bridges and slopes of the landscape through which the railway passes." Can anyone confirm this? Doesn't it seem more likely that the name simply originates from the fact that the train is literally taking you up into the clouds? -- Gsv (talk) 19:28, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
- I think the correct name is to the clouds. "Through which", and "into" both mean the same thing. "Of" would mean the train itself was made of clouds. 199.125.109.102 (talk) 19:09, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Strange
[edit]Tren a las Nubes#The Tren a las nubes today. Why run the train for the whole route length in winter and not in summer? This paragraph makes no logical sense. Peter Horn 02:23, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Part thru Chile
[edit]Tren a las Nubes; why was the part thru Chile to the coast never built? Peter Horn 18:51, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hey Pete, it is built, problem i believe is that some stretches in the Andes are a different rail gauge and part of it is rack railway cause of the climb, i will be studying topic in depth shortly and I'll keep you informed! A tunnel is also in the plans for uninterrupted service between the oceans, now that they've found out that rail cargo transport is far less expensive and can carry far greater payloads than truck ∞ Moebiusuibeom-en (talk) 18:20, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
Two mistakes
[edit]- Locomotives used in the service are not GE, but GM. More precisely, EMD GT22CU. None of the metre-gauge GE locos in Argentina would be fit for the steep grades and high altitudes of the line.
- It's a quite extended mistake to equate Tren a las Nubes with the C.14 line, the train runs on parts of C.13 (Güemes-Alemanía) and C.14 (Cerrillos-Socompa). Salta-Cerrillos is done on C.13, and the remainder on C.14.
I've amended the article accordingly. Cinabrium (talk) 22:09, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Latest News (2016)
[edit]The railway bridge at Villa Los Sauces collapsed at noon of December 5th, 2015, after heavy rains had washed out the foundations of a pillar. The tourist train, which had passed the bridge in the morning of the same day, could not return to Salta. Train operation will start in june 2016, but only between San Antonio de los Cobres and the "Polvorilla" viaduct (22 kilometers). - On the other hand, freight train operation from San Antonio de los Cobres to Augusta Victoria (Chile), which had been interrupted since 2005, started again on april 26th, 2016. For that purpose, 27 kilometers of rails had been replaced. Source: http://www.ramalc14.com.ar/ Riggenbach (talk) 10:10, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
This information on the train of the clouds is extremely inaccurate. I’m here in Salta now and just rode it the other day. It’s a total rip off. The train doesn’t leave from Salta anymore.
[edit]This information is incorrect. The train doesn’t make this trip only 20km over the trestle. Not from Salta. I just took this trip and for over $100. Just for a hour train trip. The scenery is beautiful but not the tunnels or bridges or stops that is states do not exist. The train leaves from San Antionio de los Cobres. Which is just a short distance from the trestle. 200.41.170.30 (talk) 15:53, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
