"Centre" of Zone 1

[edit]

An anonymous IP editor is insistent on pointing out that the theoretical centre of Z1 is not the same as the geographical centre. This not only appears utterly non-notable to me, but I am not aware of any great evidence that this is considered to be an "issue" by anyone else. Since Zone boundaries have fluctuated in the past, with some stations switching from one to the other, geographical considerations are clearly only part of the process. I'm merely pointing out that the "centre" of the zonal system is a valid point for the centre of London. It is notable that this differs, often by quite a distance, from WC2, Charing Cross, Westminster, Oxford Street, Greenwich, and other reported locations for the centre of the city. It doesn't matter if it's an "issue" or not. People obviously consider it of academic interest, as seen by pages such as Central London (there is a whole section devoted to various definitions), and pages such as Centre points of the United Kingdom . —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.232.19.118 (talk) 16:32, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shoreditch High Street

[edit]

The map on the page is wrong as it shows that Shoreditch High Street is not in Zone 1, though it is. I have tried to establish from TfL when this took effect and have not been successful. Anyone know? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smallcpa (talkcontribs) 16:51, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is in Zone 1 and here is a map to prove that Zonal tube map — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.152.245.252 (talk) 09:28, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

St Pancras discrepancy

[edit]

St Pancras International is not managed by Network Rail; St Pancras domestic is. The station is owned by London & Continental Railway and Eurostar manage St Pancras International as Network Rail have no jurisdiction outside of Britain. Network Rail manage the East Midlands trains and South Eastern services and sub-surface platforms A and B are managed by First Capital Connect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.152.245.252 (talk) 09:24, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Shortest distance claim

[edit]

I've reverted ‎DieSwartzPunkt's removal of this. Quail's track diagrams show the distance between the platform centre-points for Covent Garden and Leicester Square is .26 kilometres, while for Charing Cross/Embankment the distances are .37 and .26 for the Bakerloo and Northern lines respectively. Obviously that's rounded, so the .26 could be anything from .255 to .264 and presumably CC/LS is at the lower limit, while C-X/Emb is at the upper limit. The bottom line is that TfL still claim that CC/LS is the shortest journey, so we can't second-guess them unless someone can come up with an authoratative source that says otherwise. The claim that both Embankment platforms are "both are under Villiers St" is also not strictly speaking true, as the southbound is under Victoria Embankment Gardens and the Embankment, rather than any part of Villiers Street. Nick Cooper (talk) 13:37, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So if TfL claim it, where is the citation to support the claim? Cite or delete. DieSwartzPunkt (talk) 14:25, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Image slightly incorrect

[edit]

Mentioned this at c:File talk:London Underground Zone 1 with street map.jpg, but I'll mention it here as well. This file needs minor editing, as Shoreditch High Street Overground station is also in Zone 1- it's listed as such on this page and TFL website. Please could someone edit this?
