added to WikiProject Greater Manchester

[edit]

I have added the template for the WikiProject Greater Manchester, as I feel the article falls under it's scope and could do with some much needed attention! It covers a future organisation which could be only the second of its kind in the UK, and which which presides over Greater Manchester! Tong22 (talk) 20:25, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

--Yep. Agreed. Please do Wikify it! I'm a complete amateur really but I just wanted to get the ball rolling! Thanks :-) Mapmark (talk) 22:30, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As a result of the conversion I've removed the banner as WikiProject Greater Manchester does not appear to assess redirects. ChiZeroOne (talk) 02:03, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

TfGME -> Transport for Greater Manchester?

[edit]

Shouldn't the article be moved to Transport for Greater Manchester? The abbreviation as the common name isn't obvious and is a bit non-standard, see Transport for London. This article covers the whole organisation, the different elements (TfGMC & TfGME) probably do not deserve individual articles so probably should be "TfGM" anyway. There are no separate articles on transport authority boards and the organisation themselves. I see Transport for Greater Manchester is currently a separate redirect so I'll need to set up a requested move. ChiZeroOne (c 15:15, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As the person who created the page I completely agree with ChiZeroOne's suggestion - can we request an editor move or we do need to do it ourselves??Mapmark (talk) 23:06, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why has this been moved to the incorrect page?

[edit]

Why has this been moved to the incorrect page without consensus? ChiZeroOne (talk) 00:31, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah Chi is right I think! Surely if the move is happening it should be titled "Transport for Greater Manchester" (as in Transport for London)? Mapmark (talk) 11:50, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, there is plenty of evidence it is the correct common name, [1], [2], [3] etc. I'll set up a requested move. ChiZeroOne (talk) 01:35, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: page moved per request and discussion below. - GTBacchus(talk) 06:32, 1 January 2011 (UTC) page restored. I mistakenly moved the page when the discussion below had resulted in a determination not to move it. -GTBacchus(talk) 09:03, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Transport for Greater Manchester ExecutiveTransport for Greater Manchester — The page was moved to an expanded form of the acronym of the original but this was incorrect in the first place as it is only part of the organisation and not its common name. --ChiZeroOne (talk) 01:44, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    • It was kinda assumed by editors that when the name change occured the GMPTE page would be renamed and serve as the base of the article and a redirect put in place to catch links to its former name. WatcherZero (talk) 17:23, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, so what you are saying is that this page was created in error? Now I understand the TfGM redirect. The main problem with that though is squeezing the GMPTE page into a "history" section of a TfGM article without losing info, could be done though. So instead of the move should the information on this page be transferred to GMPTE and this page deleted (not likely to be re-used)? ChiZeroOne (talk) 18:19, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree to that, if there is any unique information here it should be transferred as well, for example the map is useful. WatcherZero (talk) 19:08, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Was I who made the page. Huge apologies if it was in error, jumped the gun soemwhat. But happy for any move needed etc. :-) Sorry! Mapmark (talk) 21:30, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry, it's not like there was an obvious discussion anywhere stating this was the plan. Error was maybe a bit strong, there are "accepted practices" but no one is expected to know them before editing. Pretty much anything on here can be changed/moved etc if need be, as long it is a useful addition it will probably be kept in some form.
Anyway, I'll leave this discussion open a little longer to see if there are any objections and then see about moving over the info to the GMPTE page. ChiZeroOne (talk) 00:35, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Redirect

[edit]

Instead of deletion I've converted the page to a redirect as this will be appropriate once GMPTE is moved to TfGM.

What the **** is going on?

[edit]

A blatantly inferior version, [4], has been restored as well as reverting back to the grammatically incorrect "the TfGM". I'm tempted to revert back immediately. ChiZeroOne (talk) 16:13, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
