Transient convection diffusion equation → Numerical solution of the convection–diffusion equation – The convection–diffusion equation is a time-dependent equation, which admits both time-dependent (a.k.a. transient) and steady-state solutions. It is incorrect (or at least unusual) to say that there is an equation called the "transient convection diffusion equation", rather than saying that "the convection-diffusion equation has solutions which are time-dependent and which have transients". The article convection–diffusion equation already discusses both steady-state and time-dependent solutions to the equation, both qualitatively and quantitatively, and in fact most of that article discusses time-dependent solutions. (To be clear: Steady-state solutions are special and rare, whereas the "generic" "default" solution is time-dependent.) So (1) there is no such thing as "transient convection diffusion equation", (2) Even if that were a standard term, meaning presumably "time-dependent behavior of systems governed by the convection-diffusion equation", that topic is not something which should be a separate article from convection–diffusion equation, because that makes up the whole essential core content of the convection–diffusion equation article, (3) Even if we wanted to make such an article, this article, as it exists today, is not it. (I mean, it has no broad qualitative discussion along those lines.) What this article is, is a discussion of the numerical (i.e. computer) solution of the convection-diffusion equation. The article does a decent job of describing that topic, and that is a good topic for a wikipedia article. So let's rename it accordingly! Steve (talk) 05:31, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Support: The new title is unambiguous and specific. (I also scrap the previous suggestion of merging into Convection–diffusion equation). M∧Ŝc2ħεИτlk10:10, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
