Requested move 3 August 2024
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved. After considering the arguments below, it is evident that both "theater" and "theatre" are technically correct spellings, with "theater" being the American variant and "theatre" the British. However, there is a consensus to move to "Theater" per WP:OFFICIAL and commonly used name. (closed by non-admin page mover) Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 05:32, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
Oregon Theatre → Oregon Theater – The spellings "theater" and "theatre" are not quite interchangeable. In theory, "theater" is the American spelling while "theatre" is the British spelling. In practice, the British spelling is often used in the US – mostly, I suspect, because it looks more refined to the American eye.
So either spelling is "correct," but this article should use the spelling the theater itself used: "Oregon Theater." Isaac Rabinovitch (talk) 01:28, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
- Agree - Spelling used by the establishment should be used for the title. --John B123 (talk) 10:42, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. 'Theater' and 'theatre' are basically the same word. It doesn't matter which one we use in the title. Waqar💬 19:11, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
- Support, of the sources used here 9 use "Theater", while 5 use "Theatre". As this was a formal entity with a sign with "Theater", then makes sense to prefer that spelling as usage is mixed, as well as it being the common one in American English as used in the article. - Support per nom. The theatre itself does appear to have used the American spelling. -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:33, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- Support It seems that both titles have been used in reliable sources, but I see little reason why we wouldn't use the one that is used in the majority of the sources and is also used on the actual signage for the subject.--Yaksar (let's chat) 20:20, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
Name Change to Tomorow Theater
[edit]I see @Another Believer has made content changes preparatory to changing the name again, this time to Tomorrow Theater. This does make sense, despite the recent Theatre-to-Theater change. So why not go ahead and do it? It's obviously a noncontroversial move, so you can do it from the article menu. Isaac Rabinovitch (talk) 23:04, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Isaac Rabinovitch I was actually going to start another move discussion because I wasn't sure if we should be using the longtime / common name, or the current official name. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:08, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think anyone still calls it the Oregon Theater. Under that name, it was a dying porno theater that nobody ever went to. I didn't even know it was there, and I used to live nearby. Easier to do a simple rename of the page and if anyone objects we can always back it out. But nobody will object. Isaac Rabinovitch (talk) 11:55, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Isaac Rabinovitch Done Tomorrow Theater ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:30, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Moved to
- Cool!
- That photo of the Oregon Theater front now looks sadly out of place, and there's nothing more recent online. I'll try to get to that part of town soon for a new photo, unless somebody else has plans. Isaac Rabinovitch (talk) 17:57, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- Like Thanks! In the meantime, feel free to move the image from the Tomorrow Theater section up to the infobox if you prefer something more recent than the current image. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:01, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
