2018 film

[edit]

Why do we call the 2018 movie a reboot? The trailer makes it seem like a prequel.87.247.13.247 (talk) 10:00, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It is essentially both. It's based on the 2013 game, which is also considered a reboot. In essence both that game and the film are ignoring the previous games and films, while also being set earlier than past entries. -- ferret (talk) 14:11, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I can't speak to whether the film and game are a prequel, reboot, or both, but to me, a prequel would mean that its contents produce continuity with the original series while being set earlier; a reboot would (or at least could) break continuity regardless of when it was set. In my opinion "reboot" is entirely meaningless, other than the creator just saying "fuck it! I cant be bothered to read/play/watch all that! Summarise it in 2 words!" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.138.140.227 (talk) 01:55, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Consideration of Tomb Raider: Anniversary as a mainline entry

[edit]

The articles and development timeline considers Anniversary as a mainline entry, and thus, Shadow of the Tomb Raider becomes the 12th mainline entry. However, Shadow is generally considered the 11th game, with the currently in-development TR game being referred to as Tomb Raider 12.

The redirects in Wikipedia are also set that way: Tomb Raider 7 redirects to Legend, while Tomb Raider 8 redirets to Underworld, with Anniversary in-between being omitted.

To solve this, I propose:

Option 1: modify articles not to refer Anniversary as a mainline entry,

or

Option 2: modify redirects such that Tomb Raider 8 sends to Anniversary, with Tomb Raider 12 sending to Shadow, and so forth. Merko (talk) 02:36, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot seem to find a source that "Shadow is generally considered the 11th game" apart from some fanwikis. Could you elaborate? IceWelder [] 11:47, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Game files suggest it Merko (talk) 12:14, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Internal file names are not really relevant here, I think. They also do not portray which game was left out of the count. There should be some reliable (preferably secondary) sources on this matter. IceWelder [] 12:36, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot find any reliable source saying that there are 12 mainline Tomb Raider games. The only ones who claim this are fans. Until such a source is found, the numbering should probably be left well enough alone. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 14:41, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The numbering in Wikipedia is inconsistent. Redirects suggest 11 games, but the lead sections of articles suggest 12. Merko (talk) 15:02, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

First Tomb Raider was on atari

[edit]

Really should edit this because it is very wrong. You never even mentioned the first game. 67.246.120.54 (talk) 16:36, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Where does it say that? A search for "atari" turned up nothing. EvergreenFir (talk) 16:59, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Consider adding expansion packs (DLC), handheld games, compilations and remasters to the timeline
