Classification of white lotus as an anthology tv series.

[edit]

This post incorrectly classifies the white lotus as an anthology series when it is not. Slamrock17 (talk) 21:54, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Considering it's been renewed for a second season that will be set in a different location and feature new characters, it fits the description of an anthology series, much like other modern anthology series such as American Horror Story, Fargo and True Detective. See these sources which mention it as an anthology: [1][2]. Drovethrughosts (talk) 22:30, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Benidorm

[edit]

This looks suspiciously like the American version of Benidorm. 90.246.33.5 (talk) 17:56, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You need to provide a reliable source to add your claim of The White Lotus is the American version of Benidorm. — YoungForever(talk) 18:10, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"pompous"

[edit]

I don't agree with the description of Cameron as "pompous". He's more of a jock, a bro, a bully. "Pompous" people are snobs who think they're your intellectual or cultural superior. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 08:34, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User:UnknownBat I'm not saying my version's better or your version's better, just that you shouldn't wholesale revert without discussion. You reverted my additions, and you reverted my subtractions too, all without explanations even in editsums. Wikipedia is supposed to be about collaboration. Placing Jennifer Coolidge and Jon Gries' characters separately from the rest of the cast?

[edit]

Since they're the only characters that reoccur in more than one season (Jennifer being a main), should we place them outside the rest of the cast list with a clarification like "Jennifer Coolidge and Jon Gries are the only characters that appear in more than one season"? Just an idea. Trqalobaid (talk) 22:18, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Babcock or Sullivan?

[edit]

I don't recall hearing "Babcock" at any point, but they don't use surnames much in the series. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 01:59, 1 December 2022 (UTC) I changed it back to Sullivan because that's what's on the official site. Maybe Babcock was in earlier versions of the script. Can anyone trace where this name came from? MaxBrowne2 (talk) 02:21, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

final episode narrative needs to be stripped down

[edit]

I suggest we start with Tanya's story arc. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 00:35, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits are doing the absolute opposite of what we need. Strip the edit summaries down to the important stuff, and don't add editorial comment or interpretation. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 14:23, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Per MOS:TVPLOT, For main series articles, plot summaries of no more than 200 words per episode should ideally be presented in a table using {{Episode table}} and {{Episode list}}. Some of the plot summaries are clocking way over 200 words. — YoungForever(talk) 15:37, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Characters' races

[edit]

Much as we may wish it weren't so, race clearly does matter in real life. It influences how people react to you, how people treat you, how authorities treat you, how doctors treat you, and ultimately your opportunities in life. Paula's ethnic background has clearly played a big part in shaping who she is. I'd be willing to bet that the person who removed the "mixed race" description along with a false-equivalence suggestion that we include every character's race was white. Fork

[edit]

I suggest forking out The White Lotus (season 1) and The White Lotus (season 2). Thoughts? ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:32, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

doesn't seem necessary, "readable prose size" only at 17 kB. Thanks, Indagate (talk) 15:36, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Season 1

[edit]

I have delayed deleting Draft:The White Lotus (season 1) as an expiring draft twice now because I thought some TV fan would work on it and move it to main space. Is there any interest in polishing up this draft? Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 06:04, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Like Draft:List of House of the Dragon characters, these could end up splitting up. CastJared (talk) 13:00, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

House of the Dragon is irrelevant to this discussion, there is only 17 kB of "readable prose size" on this article, so split isn't necessary yet Indagate (talk) 09:26, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Don't see any need to branch the article out. Maybe if it gets to 4 seasons. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 13:41, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Season 3

[edit]

Should we include anything about season 3 being set in Thailand, or Natasha Rothwell's return to the cast? Or are these just considered rumors at this stage? MaxBrowne2 (talk) 17:45, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

“The White Lotus” is heading to Thailand, multiple sources close to the production tell Variety. Here.
Natasha Rothwell will return to “The White Lotus” for Season 3, Variety has learned from multiple sources close to the production. Here.
Production hasn't started yet, but we consider Variety a reliable source and I doubt these are just unsubstantiated rumors. I personally see not issue in adding this material, although some might prefer to wait until HBO or Mike White confirm, or until production starts. Mooonswimmer 18:57, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Both of these pieces of information are already included in the article. Drovethrughosts (talk) 19:58, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sequence of character descriptions confusing

[edit]

As presently written, the list of characters for both the first season and the second describes some characters in terms of their relationship to characters that actually appear further down the list, such that perplexed users find themselves scrolling up to see whether they missed Something. For the season 1 list, a character is defined as being "Olivia's friend" well before Olivia herself appears in the list; the first several characters in the season 2 list are connected to an as-yet-unmentioned someone named "Dominic," which left me scrolling back up to list 1 to see if maybe he was a character that was carried over from the first season (he wasn't).

I would try to fix this myself, but having never seen the show, I doubt I could do so successfully. Highly recommend that either the order of character descriptions be rearranged or that the ones relating them to either of these characters be rewritten so that they make sense on their own. Lawikitejana (talk) 21:10, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I find it kinda funny you making such a comment without having seen the show, but I agree. This is a weirdly common problem across Wikipedia’s character lists, and it often stems from an alphabetical (no doubt in place to avoid even the slightest appearance of bias). I’ll see if I can fix it, and you work on watching the show ;) — HTGS (talk) 21:56, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To be more precise, the guideline at MOS:TVCAST suggests we follow the billing from the show (The cast listing should be ordered according to the original broadcast credits), and the show elected to use alphabetical order. So we either rewrite the cast listings to be a little clearer, or we elect to ignore MOS:TVCAST in this case, and use a more sensible order. For that we probably need consensus here first. Alternatively, we raise the issue at the guideline and suggest it be relaxed further. — HTGS (talk) 22:19, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Cast and characters section is going by seasons because it is an anthology television series where every season has new cast, except for 1-1 characters. — YoungForever(talk) 23:13, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
