The Mistake by the Lake → The Mistake on the Lake – The phrase, as originated in 1964, was "The Mistake on the Lake." Piriczki (talk) 00:52, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
- I support the move, but think that rather than having a disambiguation page at this title, we should have an article on the phrase itself, and its history of being used as to refer to lakeside places of questionable value. bd2412 T 21:46, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Dreary Erie, the Mistake on the Lake
[edit]There are, in fact, reliable sources verifying that Erie, PA is referred to as "The Mistake on the Lake".
- ErieReader.com (local media) -- "We complain about the weather. Or that there’s no culture here. Or that Erie’s just plain ugly. The mistake on the lake. Dreary Erie."
- SaltMagazine.com (non-local media) -- "Originally from Erie, Pennsylvania — Dreary Erie, says Ron, the Mistake on the Lake — his nursing career led him to Kentucky..."
- Mercyhurst University IIS (Erie, PA, univ.) -- "No, for us it is "dreary Erie" or "the mistake on the lake." We don't talk, much less brag, about how we've changed and adapted to a difficult and complex world..."
There are also plenty of user-generated references, from forums and the like, indicating readers very well may be looking for Erie, PA, when using the search term "Mistake on the Lake". Levdr1lp / talk 19:43, 17 December 2013 (UTC)
- If this is a significant usage, then please add it to the Erie, PA article. Unless the linked article supports the usage, there is no reason to add entry to the disambiguation page (i.e., a disambiguation page is not an article, does not contain references and cannot assert claims that are not supported by the linked article). older ≠ wiser 00:59, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
- Got it. Levdr1lp / talk 01:36, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
- Sources sold me. If it's on Erie's page, it should be here too EvergreenFir (talk) 04:55, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
- I've added these sources to the Erie page. Whether they ultimately end up staying there is another matter. I wouldn't be surprised if a whole new discussion crops up at that article's talk page. Levdr1lp / talk 04:59, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
- It's been well over a week since I added the above info and sources to the Erie, PA, article, and no one has attempted to remove or modify my addition. As such, I am restoring the Erie link to this disambiguation page. Levdr1lp / talk 18:26, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
