Jason Will Die?

[edit]

One of the lines about the Son of Neptune says, "Rick Riordan has stated in his blog that Jason will die trying to save another person in The Son of Neptune." As far as I could tell, this wasn't on his blog. If this is true, could somebody add the link as a reference? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.220.118.252 (talk) 18:39, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Son of Neptune Cover

[edit]

I think we should add a picture of the art. Before the release of the Throne of Fire, someone had put a picture of the cover.--74.124.171.92 (talk) 01:53, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe it would make more sense to add a picture of the Heroes of Olympus logo? 62sameera (talk) 18:21, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Typos everywhere

[edit]

There were typos everywhere, I think I got them all. But please somebody review the article again to make sure I got them all.KF5LLG (talk) 01:42, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just went through and made additional edits as well. I removed the request for copy edits on the page, but it still needs to be rewritten in non-universe prose though.P0PP4B34R732 (talk) 01:58, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How did the 4th book's name appear on here before the book came out?

[edit]

The 4th book says "House of Hades". How in the world do people know about the name already even before the book came out? Did Rick announce it at an event that he is doing for the Mark of Athena Tour?

--76.89.151.184 (talk) 03:33, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's printed in the end of Mark of Athena ReformedArsenal (talk) 15:22, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Book 5 title here before on the official site. How?

[edit]

How are people here and on the Rick Riordan page (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Rick_Riordan) saying that Book 5 is "The Doors of Death"? Rick Riordan's official site - http://www.rickriordan.com/my-books/percy-jackson/heroes-of-olympus.aspx does not say anything about the title, only that it will be released in Fall 2014. Please reply if you know otherwise and give a citation. Or I will replace the title with simply "Book 5", since there is not even a working title divulged by the author. Adityarajbhatt (talk) 14:31, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The fifth book is titled as "The Blood Of Olympus".It is mentioned on the last page of "House Of Hades"(book #4)..Plss rename the title... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.151.150.210 (talk) 16:06, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Changes: 31st Oct 13

[edit]

I have made numerous edits to the page. As I am unable to write about all of them in the summary due to the 240 character limit, I shall bullet point them here.

  • Correct grammar and spellings in "The House of Hades" (e.g. Athena Pathernon --> Athena Parthenos)
  • Add more info, but not too much to constitute being called Fancruft. (e.g. Ares and Mars, who have been fighting inside Frank's head as soon as the Greek and Roman sides met, temporarily call a truce and reward Frank.
  • Correct false information in the plot, or phrases that do not make sense (e.g. Though he still retains much of his liveliness, the encounter with Calypso filled him a melancholy Piper and Hazel soon notices)

Plagiarism (?)

[edit]

"Though the Greek and Roman crew members of the Argo II have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen—all of them, and they’re stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood—the blood of Olympus—in order to wake. The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance.

Though it is tempting to take the Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belongs back on Long Island, where it might be able to stop a war between the two camps. The Athena Parthenos will go west; the Argo II will go east. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea’s army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over."

This text in the article (2.5.1 - The Blood of Olympus: Synopsis) seems to be copied almost exactly from: http://www.rickriordan.com/my-books/percy-jackson/heroes-of-olympus/The-Blood-of-Olympus.aspx, with no link to the website anywhere at all in the article.

Is this plagiarism? Forgive me if I'm missing something obvious - I'm still quite new here. Bilorv (talk) 14:01, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for point this out. You're absolutely right, it's plagiarism; see WP:COPYVIO for more discussion on the issue. I've removed the entire Synopsis section, and written a short summary of what's expected to be in the book based on the end of The House of Hades (and that doesn't disagree with anything in summary), though the bit about it being "tempting to take the Athena Parenthos to Athens" is old news; this happened in the previous book, so it certainly doesn't belong in a summary here. Gaea vs. Gaia

[edit]

Regardless of Wikipedia's preferred spelling for the mythological earth goddess, Riordan uses the "Gaea" spelling in the series here in the U.S. The actual books only use that spelling; I'm looking at my copy of The House of Hades and it's there inside and out. If someone has a case to make about using "Gaia" even with that character name in the printed editions, I'd be interested to see it, but absent a consensus that such a case is compelling, we need to stick with the official series spelling. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:55, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The only place that I have seen Gaea is on the Blood of Olympus Synopsis and possibly if I remember correct, Lost Hero and Son of Neptune, in both the House of Hades and Mark of Athena, Gaia is used. --Ditto51 (talk) 00:06, 11 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What really matters is what is used in the books themselves. Not the Wikipedia articles, but the novels as written by Riordan. I have in my hands a copy of The House of Hades, first U.S. edition hardcover, printed by Disney/Hyperion. It says "Gaea" on the inside dustjacket flap—"Gaea, the bloodthirsty Earth Mother" starts the last sentence of the first paragraph—and also throughout the book. It's first seen on page 5 (the second-to-last line of the page starts "of Gaea, Hazel's least favorite goddess").
Do you have an edition that uses "Gaia"? If it isn't the U.S. edition, then the U.S. edition holds sway because it is the original one; spellings in other countries are considered secondary. And if you're relying on the Wikipedia articles for the "Gaia" spelling, that isn't a reliable source. Reliable secondary sources are best, but Riordan's own website's summary of The House of Hades spells is "Gaea" (see here).
I hadn't realized that the Wikipedia articles for some of the novels used incorrect spellings. I'll be fixing them shortly. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:19, 11 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it turns out I don't need to fix the main articles for the first four novels in the series. They universally use "Gaea"; there's not a "Gaia" in sight. I'm going to restore my recent edits to this article to use "Gaea", since the only place "Gaia" has been used, mistakenly, is here. I'll add a reliable source citation or two for the spelling for clarity's sake. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:23, 11 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've added an inline source citation to the intro of the article which references Kirkus Reviews, a very notable independent print review magazine that also reprints its reviews on the web. I chose the The Mark of Athena review because it refers to "the vengeful Earth mother, Gaea", and I've used that spelling throughout the article to match the review (and the books). Break off The Blood of Olympus

[edit]

I recently changed the redirect The Blood of Olympus to an actual page since the release is only two months away. Should it break off?

Characters and Plots sections need cleanup

[edit]

The characters (except, perhaps, for the seven of the prophecy) and plot sections need to be shortened. The individual book pages and the article List of Camp Half-Blood characters are there to provide details; this page should merely be a synopsis and outline.
— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2ReinreB2 (talkcontribs) 16:22, 25 July 2015‎ (UTC)[reply]

Re characters, I refashioned the section 4 hatnote thus:
which may well be shortened using a Custom section label" with parameter such as l1=Characters in the Camp Half-Blood chronicles. Thus:
It will not work well to target sec 1.2, The Heroes of Olympus main characters, because that covers only main characters who are not covered in the preceding sec 1.1, Percy Jackson and the Olympians main characters. --P64 (talk) 22:03, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The shortening issue has been addressed. -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 23:45, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
