The Hebrew Bible (Alter) → The Hebrew Bible: A Translation with Commentary – Per WP:SUBTITLE, When the most commonly used name is ambiguous, the full title and subtitle might be suitable to be used as a form of natural disambiguation; and Orlando: A Biography, not Orlando (novel), nor Orlando (book). Currently, The Hebrew Bible: A Translation with Commentary redirects to this page. Having that as the title of the article with The Hebrew Bible (Alter) as a redirect would be simpler and more natural for readers and editors. Articles about other editions of the Bible that have subtitles similarly use the subtitle format, rather than the author surname parenthetical format: The Holy Bible: A Purified Translation, The Bible: An American Translation Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 08:32, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. Per its sources, it is better (and more commonly) known by its author (Alter) than by its subtitle "A Translation with Commentary". For purposes of identifying the subject, it is better to disambiguate with the author. We should consider renaming other similar articles on their own merits. czar 13:31, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For purposes of identifying the subject, it is better to disambiguate with the author: While disambiguating with the author's surname is an option, that's only if further disambiguation is needed. In this case, following the WP:Naming conventions guideline and using the work's subtitle would provide sufficient disambiguation. Additionally, while some sources, such as those currently cited in the article, foreground the author's name in headlines, there are plenty of sources that emphasize its full name and subtitle:
- Publishers Weekly reviews it as The Hebrew Bible: A Translation with Commentary
- Moment reviews it as The Hebrew Bible: A Translation with Commentary
- The Jewish Book Council calls it The Hebrew Bible: A Translation with Commentary
- The Journal of Jewish Studies reviews it as The Hebrew Bible: A Translation with Commentary
- Ministry reviews it as The Hebrew Bible: A Translation with Commentary
- Jewish Currents reviews it as The Hebrew Bible: A Translation with Commentary
- The Church Times reviews it as The Hebrew Bible: A Translation with Commentary

All reviews are going to name its official title, but we use not the official but the common name. Additionally, in this case, he subtitled name is much more ambiguous to the reader than the Alter disambiguation in terms of what a reader is searching for and expecting to find. czar 16:47, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose. No evidence that adding the subtitle will make the title ay more recognisable. But this raises more issues. The Hebrew Bible currently redirects to Hebrew Bible, an article on the Tanakh (or Tanak). Both The Hebrew Bible and Hebrew Bible are ambiguous, but there is currently no Hebrew Bible (disambiguation) nor The Hebrew Bible (disambiguation).
