Copied off of Site/NPOV Issue
[edit]- Complete article is taken from http://www.bolles.org/about.
- Obviously, because it it taken from the school's official site, it does not have a NPOV.

This is absolutely biased.
[edit]Instead of simply posting what you would wish for the public to see, lets get some facts. This page has absolutely no sources and does not live up to wikipedia's standards of writing or formatting. This seems like an advertisment.
Teimu.tm 22:47, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Four years later, this is still ad copy. Why is there a section about the damn Honor Code? GavinZac (talk) 06:40, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
totally revamped
[edit]I've completely overhauled this page. It now contains actual facts.
Please don't vandalize
[edit]Someone added paragraphs about students being bullied and rules not being enforced. He also added that Bolles never expels students from wealthy families and doesn't enforce its honor code. This is not only false (or exaggerated), but extremely POV. I have removed these paragraphs, and I hope no one will grind his axe on this page again. --Hpanic7342 02:18, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
Again?
[edit]Someone clearly had a bad experience at the middle school and is continuing to grind his axe on this page. Whoever you are (and you keep posting anonymously, you coward), I will continue to remove your posts about "hours of free time" and students bullying one another, because they're extremely POV. Once you can cite any of these claims with references, I will stop. -Hpanic7342 02:51, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Still NPOV
[edit]Passages like this:
- The school has had significant success in academic competitions. Bolles perennially ranks among the best in state and national Spanish, French, and German competitions. Bolles's top math students have a history of distinguishing themselves at the local, state, and national level in competitions like Mu Alpha Theta. The school's engineering team perennially ranks among the top ten nationwide in competitions like JETS.
are NPOV paragraphs that do not objectively compare Bolles to anything. Actual numbers instead of vague phrasing like "perennially among the best" would help. dcandeto 21:53, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
I've changed that passage to add some actual ranks and remove what looks like glowing praise. As such, I've removed the NPOV tag. Put it back if you have any more problems with the page. --Hpanic7342 19:18, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's better. dcandeto 20:10, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Dorms?
[edit]I'm from the Jacksonville area. When I was younger, whenever I would be bad, my mother would say, "Shape up or you're going to The Bolles!" Of course, this would elicit sobs from me since my mother told me that The Bolles was a school where the kids lived in dorms and didn't go home for most of the week. Is this still true? Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 18:38, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Something like 10% of the Upper School boards at Bolles, so yeah, they do live in dorms, and stay there year-round, like with any boarding prep school. There's also an option to board during the week and go home on the weekends (usually for people who live in Florida or Georgia, but relatively far from Jacksonville). By all accounts the living quarters for boarders are very nice. Of course, the vast majority of students are only day students. -Hpanic7342 14:52, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- As a recent, former alum, I can tell you that there are a number of borders, but none of them local. The vast majority of borders were foreign students, so of course they boarded. Local students never boarded. -RajlGT
user RajlGT one of my good friend lives very close to Jacksonville but lives in a dorm anyway so it is false that local students never board i_eat_fried_chicken —Preceding undated comment added 16:10, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
Rock and Roll
[edit]I removed the extremely biased and gushing remarks about the "rock and roll appreciation club." If anyone wants to add a NPOV statement about it, go ahead. Hpanic7342 19:52, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
Jeb Bush
[edit]Jeb Bush (the younger one) certainly went to Bolles and graduated in 2002. His article even says so, so I don't know why someone decided to remove him from the "Notable Alumni" section. I've put him back on there. Hpanic7342 16:01, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- How is being the son of someone worthy of being notable? Florida is in America, not Europe. In America being someone's child does not make you worthy of any entitlement. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.139.251.25 (talk • contribs) 2006-12-14
What are you talking about? What has Europe got to do with it? Florida is that state that put George Bush's son into the presidency right? GavinZac (talk) 06:38, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
- There is a Wikipedia article about him. If he were not notable, that article would be eligible for deletion. If you do not think that he is notable, take up that his issue on his page, not here. Also, sign your posts. Hpanic7342 23:09, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- He's done nothign except be born to someone. This is AMERICA, we don't have an aristocracy here. Jeb Bush (Jr., not the governor mind you) should be off the list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.139.251.25 (talk • contribs) 2007-02-11
- If you wrote an article about yourself, assuming you are not notable, the article would be eligible for deletion immediately (and would not last long on Wikipedia). Whether he's done anything that you deem notable or not is not the point; there is an article about him, and it has not been deleted. If you have a problem with there being an article about him, take up that issue on his page. Also, please watch the profanity. It makes you look bad. Hpanic7342 15:57, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Jeb Bush, Jr. is unworthy of listing but it pertains to the status of the school that the Governor of Florida placed his son here, so that should be in the text not the list.
The long list of notable alumni comprises mainly Olympic swimmers and NFL football players. Perhaps they should be segregated. Are there no multi-star Generals and Admirals? Anyway the list or its sublists should be in alphabetical order. --P64 (talk) 17:18, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
I agree that Jeb Bush should be taken off the list because because he hasn't done anything notable except being born. Also there are more notable Alumni than just athletes[for example the guy who recently wrote and preformed his own play about bullying]. — Preceding unsigned comment added by I eat fried chicken (talk • contribs) 15:47, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
A couple of changes
[edit]Somebody changed the numbers of Bolles faculty with certain degrees, but that was information that I got straight from the school's website. If you want to provide evidence for why those numbers should be changed, go ahead, but don't just change them randomly. Also, the bit about community service was changed unnecessarily to a negative slant, and I reverted it back to my wording. Anyone who's ever been anywhere near Bolles knows that the school emphasizes community service among its students, and to say that it "emphasizes sports more than community service" is unverifiable and reeks of sour grapes. - Hpanic7342 04:49, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
The Art Section
[edit]Something about this section makes it seem...written by someone who goes to the school and doesn't really have much useful to say. Maybe it's the use of words like extensive and range. In any case, there are only two sentences here, and expansion would be nice. The rest of the section is garbage. Anyone can see that it doesn't do much to explain the art program, and I go to Bolles, and I'm sure the school does not advertise these beliefs. I guess because I attend Bolles I should try to write something... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.185.249.234 (talk) 02:36, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
October 2010
[edit]I've gutted a lot of this article to remove the weasel wordage and school boosterism. I removed irrelevant sections such as publishing the school's code. I've also added a slew of fact tags for things that look like they may be easily citeable, but the article needs a lot of work. There is currently very little real information about the institution. Additionally, someone above suggested that parts of the article are copied directly from the school's own publications; if this is true it would be a copyright violation and needs to be removed.--Cúchullain t/c 16:16, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
Bartram School for Girls
[edit]Jacksonville Times-Union: search "Bartram School for Girls".
Somehow this school should be in the article. Evidently the private Bartram School for Girls became the Bartram campus for girls. Was that when Bolles reportedly went co-ed, 1971? Evidently Bartram was also established in the 1930s —or its campus rebuilt then. According to his jacksonville.com obituary, Architect Clyde Eugene Harris won the contract to build it, which enabled him to marry in 1939.[1] --P64 (talk) 17:32, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
you have things a little bit wrong in your past statement. The Bartram School for girls became the middle school campus for both boys and girls and the Girls dorms — Preceding unsigned comment added by I eat fried chicken (talk • contribs) 16:02, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
Military
[edit]"It dropped its military focus in 1962." This is absolutely false; I live little more than a mile from the main Bolles campus, and the school was still boys-only and military when I graduated from a near-by public high school in 1968. I can remember the khaki uniforms and navy blue ties the students wore. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.177.38.253 (talk) 02:09, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
you don't know anything, today in 2013 we still have uniforms Bolles!
So i guess you're assuming that any school or workplace with a uniform is military. Which is an utterly ridiculous way of thinking!-11:55, 23 March 2013 — Preceding unsigned comment added by I eat fried chicken (talk • contribs)

Jeb Bush, Jr
[edit]Jeb Bush, Jr is notable due to his Grandfather, George HW Bush (41) and Uncle George W Bush (43) both were presidents of the US and his father, Jeb Bush Governor of Florida! Lkbroach (talk) 21:41, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
Name
[edit]FozzieHey, if the school's name is "The Bolles School", why is the page at "Bolles School"? – Muboshgu (talk) 19:39, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Muboshgu: I don't know, I didn't create the article, although you can see on their website that they refer to themselves as "The Bolles School" and they are also a Google place with that name. https://www.bolles.org/about-us FozzieHey (talk) 19:40, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- They do, and sources do seem to include the "the". So, I won't argue further. It was moved to take the "the" out of the article title in 2006 without a discussion. Maybe a move request should be opened to revert it. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:46, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Muboshgu: Yeah, thanks for checking. Another move proposal is probably the right thing to do. Although it might technically classify as "uncontroversial" due to the wealth of sources with "The Bolles School" as the name. FozzieHey (talk) 19:49, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

Chase Bailey
[edit]It's ironic that I clicked on the link for this page from the sucessful tv and film actor Chase Bailey's page yet he's not on the list of notable alumni. I'd add him but I don't know how to do that. 73.134.20.175 (talk) 04:15, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
