Article rating

[edit]

Rating article as Start class. Seems to be just beginning, but is well-cited for what it has. Surely will grow as details come together.--Txhockey (talk) 17:00, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion

[edit]

Contesting speedy deletion, or any deletion for that matter. This is a just-announced professional sports team, and a proof reference has been provided.--Mgreen09 (talk) 18:15, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any reference to a name. Please provide one. ccwaters (talk) 18:02, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, a bit new at this. Added! --Mgreen09 (talk) 18:15, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Purchase of Iowa Chops franchise

[edit]

Listing the Iowa Chops franchise as the heritage of the Texas Stars is erroneous. in 2009-10, Texas operated on a provisional franchise agreement with an obligation to acquire another, permanent franchise before the 2010-11 season. During 2009-10, both teams existed separately even if the Chops were involuntarily suspended due to their legal issues. The two teams are only tied together insofar as the Stars acquired the Chops' slot in the league, but goes no further. Jcderr (talk) 21:13, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This section says "Franchise history," which means the history of the franchise which was most recently acquired by the Texas Stars. So a franchise purchase entails that they purchased the history and everything along with it. Tom Danson (talk) 02:50, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It seems wikipedia has two completely different methods of accounting for franchise histories; one for major league teams and another for the minors. In the top leagues, we see very strict adherence to official franchise legacies; that is to say, the Baltimore Ravens are deemed to have begun in 1996 and the Cleveland Browns appear to have stopped existing between 1995 and 1999 and the Dallas Stars pay no homage to their ties to the Cleveland Barons (NHL), while the Texas Rangers and Minnesota Twins do pay homage to their days as the two iterations of the Washington Senators, and the Houston Dynamo are really the relocated San Jose Earthquakes, but are not given as such because the team elected to be treated as a new franchise, allowing a later expansion team to retain the 'Quakes legacy (similar to the Browns/Ravens move).
On the flip side, we ignore minor league teams' official heritage; the Round Rock Express claim no ties to either their AA origination as the Jackson Generals or the AAA Edmonton Trappers, and the Texas Stars in their PR releases obviously consider themselves a new franchise and see the acquisition of the Chops simply as cementing a permanent slot in the league.
I think the major league/heritage method of accounting for a franchise history should be preferred. Jcderr (talk) 21:38, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
