x2 Henry Durands on Elephants[edit]

The article for Henry Marion Durand says he died in Tonk, India.
Either the link to the Indian city is wrong (due to the fact that before-1947, Tank Pakistan would also have been called Tank/Tonk India)

OR The reference to Henry Durrand in this article is wrong.

Unless of course there were two Henry Durrands who both died on elephants whilst passing under gateways in 1870 and 1871.

I checked the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica, "There is another town in India called Tonk, or Tank, in Dera Ismail Khan district, North-West Frontier Province ...... Here Sir Henry Durand, lieutenant governor of the Punjab, was killed in 1870 when passing on an elephant under a gateway."

This is now Tank (Pakistan), not Tonk, India. Pahari Sahib 06:45, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Language of Tank[edit]

Main language in Tank is Pashto. Spoken as a first by all the major tribes living in the City. I have been to Tank and all the material on the District supports this. Tigerkhan007 (talk) 15:45, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 28 July 2021[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: no consensus. 5 opposed, 4 in favor, with 2 neutral comments. Not exactly an inspiring consensus of any kind. The participating editors do not appear convinced by any confusion-based arguments, and we don't usually fix things that are not causing confusion and are not violating any policy, and are not clearly necessary to change for the sake of consistency. Tank, PakistanTank (city) – There is only one city named "Tank" in the world so the geographic disambiguator "Pakistan" does not really serve a purpose here. Because of the literal meaning of the word "tank" in English language, "armored fighting vehicle", the title "Tank, Pakistan" can also be potentially confused with any of the armored fighting vehicles that are made or used in Pakistan (e.g. Al-Khalid tank, Al-Zarrar tank, etc). And this unnecessary room for confusion can be easily avoided by using the generic class parenthetical disambiguator "city". • Weak oppose. I don't think the proposed confusion is likely at all. Since there is indeed no other city in the world called "Tank", I'm not strongly opposed, but per WP:TITLECHANGES "don't fix if ain't broken". No such user (talk) 12:15, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per NSU. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:07, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. I don't think the potential for confusion with the armoured vehicles is particularly great, but on the other hand there's not much of a reason to prefer the current title either – yeah, that follows the "default setting" for articles about places, but the existence of a default setting is only relevant in the absence of other considerations, and here we clearly have other considerations, even if they're weak. It's also relevant that – like with much of South Asia – the city's name is also commonly used to refer to the whole region, so disambiguating with "(city)" here makes a lot more sense than in other countries. – Uanfala (talk) 22:45, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree with the new point about Tank District vs Tank city added by Uanfala. Both are referred to as "Tank". Khestwol (talk) 04:59, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, we also have a neighboring Tank Subdivision, whose area is technically outside of Tank District. Khestwol (talk) 05:02, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
