Pronunciation

Is TÜV pronounced as one syllable (tyf), or as three (te y fau)? samwaltz 13:35, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's always pronounced as one syllable. 790 19:50, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Depends, in the German speaking world mostly one syllabe is used ("tyf"), but still some people use "teh y fow", internationally t-u-v is pronounced using the 3 letters separate and in the local language's sound value. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.75.180.249 (talk) 10:06, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Logo tuev sued start en.gif

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. What is TUV MM Mark? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.18.127.82 (talk) 06:57, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The M Mark is a symbol on luminaries which are safe to be fitted into furniture, the MM Mark (two M Marks next to each other) symbolises that the luminary may be fitted into a piece of furniture whose material is easily flammable (wood for example). It is not a mark owned by any TUV or other certification body, but when certifying a product with the MM Mark TUV or any other certification body will have to make sure that the product is safe in (flammable) furniture. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.96.228.89 (talk) 09:13, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

TUV Product Service

[edit]

This part of the article is just copied from company advertizing and definitely overrates the company's importance in Telecommunications. It even uses "we" when talking about the company. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.75.180.249 (talkcontribs) 10:11, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This has now been changed, apologies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tuvps (talkcontribs) 14:23, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I guess it is a bit more objective now. Another comment: Reading this it is suggested to the reader that TUV Sud Product Services (I believe that is the correct English name) is based in the South West of England, but to my knowledge their HQ is in Munich, Germany. They acquired a major UK lab and BABT some 10 years ago, but have also a substantial presence in Italy, USA and East Asia....I have the impression that someone from the UK division wrote the contribution, focusing on the part of the company where he is working...:). For reasons of objectivity it should also be mentioned, that TUV Rhineland operates a similar company, larger than TUV Sud Product Services in most countries. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.96.228.89 (talkcontribs) 08:55, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]

The article lead contains the following paragraph:

Some of the TÜV certificates are also recognized in various countries: eg the United Kingdom, TÜV Product Service or the United States, the TÜV SÜD America and TUV Rheinland of North America TUVus mark (NRTL mark, equivalent listing as for example UL Mark), Argentina and Japan (e.g. according to DENAN/PAL law). TÜV SÜD America and TUV Rheinland of North America cTUVus Marks are equivalent to a CSA or UL North American Mark. The "c" stands for Canada and the "us" stands for USA. TÜV also offers access to more markets (market access) than most other notified bodies/certification bodies.

I can't make heads or tails of this paragraph; I can't even clarify it because I really have no idea what it is trying to say. It is not clear which certificates or business divisions pertain to which countries. If anyone more knowledgeable of the company can fix this up, it would be much appreciated. Otherwise, I'll probably just delete the whole paragraph and let someone recreate it from scratch when then notice that it's missing. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:10, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, it was Über-waffle. Please anyone, don't restore it unless you can tell us what it meant. In English. Rumiton (talk) 14:28, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The last paragraph of the article is this :"The services offered in the UK include mechanical, environmental simulation, electromagnetic compatibility and safety testing, which can be performed at its two UK facilities, or in situ at clients’ premises. They hold many appointments and accreditations to assess and certify products’ compliance with regulations and thereby facilitate their access to numerous markets throughout the world. They can also issue a wide range of internationally-recognised certification marks that will demonstrate products’ and services’ quality and reliability to customers." This appears to me to me a marketing exercise by the subject of the article and is therefore unsuitable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MEPK (talkcontribs) 12:17, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Competitors

[edit]

I do not agree that SGS is the only competitor of TÜV on a group/global scale. What about Bureau Veritas (61,000 employees) and Intertek (35,000 employees). They are mentioned on SGS' page as competitors of SGS, so it is only logical that they are mentioned on TÜVs page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.28.31.74 (talkcontribs) 16:10, 20 July 2014 (UTC) .Infact TUV is the good base to be in auditing sysytem.[reply]

COI etc

[edit]

This article was terrible. I completely rewrote it from independent sources. People from TÜV please read and follow WP:PAID and WP:COI, if you have questions about how to follow the PAID policy and COI guideline please ask here, and we will help you. Thanks. Request edit on 10 May 2022

  • What I think should be changed:

TÜV SÜD

[edit]

TÜV SÜD AG is a management holding company with 74.9 percent of the shares owned by TÜV SÜD e.V. (registered association) and 25.1 percent owned by the TÜV SÜD Foundation. In 2021, it generated annual sales of €2.7 billion with 25,000+ employees. TÜV SÜD has more than 1000 locations throughout Germany, Europe, America, and Asia. Around 40 percent of sales are generated abroad.

  • Why it should be changed:

Edited the first sentence to a straightforward description of what TÜV SÜD stands for. Changed “corporation not listed on the stock exchange” to “a management holding company”. Removed the members of association E.ON, Vattenfall and EnBW. Revenue, employees, and location number are updated with the new annual report figures for 2021. Added information about the board.

  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):

Cl “Deleted the first sentence to the description of what TÜV SÜD stands for.”, del “The corporation is not listed on the stock exchange”, add “It is a management holding company”, rmv "the members of association E.ON, Vattenfall and EnBW”, rmv "As a technical testing organization it offers a wide range of services with testing and certification as its main focus.", cl “Revenue, employees, and location number are updated with the new annual report numbers for 2021” [1] [2] TÜV SÜD AG (talk) 14:29, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

References

  • @TÜV SÜD AG:, reviewing this request may I suggest the following: I don't think the article needs the first sentence of your suggested text, as this is a definition of all TÜVs and is already given in the preceding paragraphs. I am happy with the four following sentences, but I don't think it's particularly appropriate to give the names of individual managers of companies here, unless they are notable in their own right and have significant media presence. I would therefore prefer to omit the sentence about the board of management. If you can accept this as an improvement on the article, I will go ahead. Thank you for following the CoI rules so scrupulously.
  • But please also note: you should change your user-name. Wikipedia accounts belong to individual people, and it is not acceptable to have corporate accounts that could be used by multiple people. Your user-name looks very much as though it's intended to belong to an organisation, not an individual. Elemimele (talk) 12:26, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Elemimele Thank you for your feedback and suggestion. I have made the changes you suggested (omiting the first and last sentences) directly at the top of the source text and adjusted the company figures based on 2021.
I will make the change to the user name directly afterwards. TÜV SÜD AG (talk) 09:15, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@TÜV SÜD AG: I see your new name is @Digital first:. The sources you provided are considered primary sources; that is, they are the company's web site, and as such cannot be used since they are unreliable. I realize this can be problematic, particularly when trying to source that members were removed from the organization, something that is unlikely to be in the press. Nonetheless, it's the only way to ensure that the information is accurate. A company can say anything they want on their web site. Do you have independent third party sources for your requests? Technischer ÜberwachungsvereinTÜV – It is without a doubt the WP:COMMONNAME, but I would also say it is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC (over TUV/Tuv), but if not I would prefer a parenthesis disamgiguator over a WP:NATDAB. PhotographyEdits (talk) 01:02, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
