Synodic day vs Mean solar day

Synodic rotation period

Hi everyone I am quite new to the concept, but can a synodic day be called a synodic rotation period? And if yes should it be included in the first sentance? Nsae Comp (talk) 13:58, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Far from an expert here, but in https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Orbital_period, is says "synodic period" (without the word "rotation"): "Another important orbital period definition can refer to the repeated cycles for celestial bodies as observed from the Earth's surface. An example is the so-called synodic period, applying to the elapsed time where planets return to the same kind of phenomena or location, such as when any planet returns between its consecutive observed conjunctions with or oppositions to the Sun. For example, Jupiter has a synodic period of 398.8 days from Earth; thus, Jupiter's opposition occurs once roughly every 13 months." This suggests that "synodic period" is more general than "synodic day", allowing the body (which is the sun for the synodic day) to be other objects such as the Earth. Thanks, I think "synodic period" is mostly used for "synodic orbital period". I taged the issud now at Rotation period, because thats where the difference to "Synodic period" as in the Orbital period could be drawn. Nsae Comp (talk) 04:53, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Venusian synodic day
