  • Suzano massacre Pros: common name in Brazil, follows formulation for impactful school shootings (Columbine massacre, Dunblane massacre) and the formulation for mass shootings in South America (where 'massacre' is a more common term than 'shooting') Cons: apparently not neutral? despite being common?
  • Professor Raul Brasil State School shooting Pros: school name + "school shooting" is a formulation used a lot for school shootings in the US, where they have a lot. Cons: school name is a mouthful, seems technical in English (standard for school names in Brazil), not really mentioned in the news (probably because of those)
  • Suzano school shooting Pros: common name in English media, follows the standard of Rio de Janeiro school shooting, is indicative to everyone. Cons: ???
  • 2019 Brazil school shooting Pros: non-offensive, indicative title. Cons: Brazil is a big country and Suzano is already a fairly large city, doesn't follow any established standard for school shooting article titles.

  • For me, the better ones are Professor Raul Brasil State School shooting and Suzano school shooting . 2019 Brazil school shooting is kind of ridiculous (no offense). Brazil is too big and 2019 just started. I don`t think it`s a good name. Suzano massacre (the name used in en.wiki) is good, but by using the word "massacre" we are inferring some kind of opinion. Who told this was a massacre? Who are us to call it a massacre? Professor Raul Brasil State School shooting is a very specific name for en.wiki, but it may work. Suzano school shooting seems the better one.--SirEdimon (talk) 21:25, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of material

[edit]

An IP whose other edits are about cartoons (can't remember the IP, but that's the context you'd get from clicking on their contribs) removed this:

President Jair Bolsonaro had recently made it easier for citizens without a criminal record to buy guns.

Now I can see how it might not seem relevant, but it's important contextual information and, oh, mentioned in the BBC article about the shooting; it's not just some random fact. Should it be restored Kingsif (talk) 21:26, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The point is that the shooting has nothing to do with the law. It's an attempt to use this tragedy to make politics.--SirEdimon (talk) 22:39, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with SirEdimon. It is not relevant at all unless it is established that the perpetrators were only able to acquire guns specifically because of this new policy. It is a random fact, relevance is spurious. Venqax (talk) 02:17, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting move

[edit]

Change the name of the article to “Suzano school massacre”, as only one firearm was used during the attack. Bows, knives, and hatchets were also used. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Morbidlycuriousjohn (talkcontribs) 03:03, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
