Number of boats built
[edit]A source is needed for the number of boats built. My understanding is that the most prolific dinghies in the world are the Laser and Optimist, each having nearly 200,000 boats built. Paulgush (talk) 02:25, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
Type of craft
[edit]Actually, the Sunfish is classified as a sailing dinghy, which is a subset of sailboats in general, encompassing the smallest boats (open boats, usually around 15 feet in length). See Dinghy sailing and Dinghy racing. scot 13:25, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Sunfishlogo.gif
[edit]Image:Sunfishlogo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Photo discrepancy
[edit]As I was viewing this article something about the photo, Sunfishdinghy closeup.jpg caught my eye. The sail on the boat pictured is rigged to starboard of the mast. Not an error, since the boat sails equally as well no matter which side the sail is put to, but unconventional.
However, on closer inspection it can be seen in order to achieve the starboard side rig it wasn’t done with just a flip of the gooseneck, which is so often the case. The entire boom has been twisted to put the gooseneck in the position it’s in. This means the eye bolts at the tack are bound up and the mainsheet blocks are positioned atop the boom. This is very poor form and IMHO places this Sunfish article in a bad light when it’s viewed by anyone familiar with the boat. My recommendation is for anyone with a picture of a correctly setup Sunfish to replace this photograph for the integrity of the page.
- Wow. Nice catch! I took the photo, and not being familiar with the Sunfish myself, did not notice the error. I'll move the image to the bottom of the page, change the image description, and add a note to the caption. -- Rmrfstar (talk) 17:51, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
One more point for page accuracy, the reference for the sail area of the Super Salfish is incorrect according to the printed specifications. The published sail area is 65 square feet, 10 square feet smaller than the regular Sunfish. To confirm this, spec sheets can be found at: http://www.msogphotosite.com/MSOG/pdfpage/funofsailing.pdf p.17 Or in the archive of original printed materials, Super Sunfish section at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sunfish_sailor

- Looks like it. Make the change. -- Rmrfstar (talk) 17:51, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
BigFish not "practically identical" to Sunfish
[edit]The BigFish (http://www.bigfishyachts.com/Default.php?Page=Specs), designed with two adult sailors in mind, is larger in every dimension than the sunfish. BigFish, Sunfish. The Sunfish obviously inspired the BigFish. --71.175.27.39 (talk) 14:57, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Proposal to revise . . .
[edit]I would like to propose revising the Sunfish (sailboat) entry to a more encyclopedic overview of the boat and include extensive resource/reference pointers to the surrounding attributes presently outlined.
My thought is, in it's current form the article frequently segues from the boat itself to highlights surrounding it's history. I’d like to make an attempt at a clearer focus on the boat and its development over the last 57 years. By doing so, allowing the reader to follow the references for further elaboration on aspects of the boat’s use and some of the controversial issues rather than embedding them in the article.
I have a rough draft that can be pasted up in the Wikipedia Sandbox for review. Would the original author of this article please let me know if this is of any interest.
Thanks for your consideration
