Where did Steve go to High School? Steve Harvey went to a school that embraced obtaining the 2nd place trophy for its competitions. This comes from a history rooted deeply in a misunderstanding that "1st Runner-Up" was more impressive that "1st Place" because there are more words on the trophy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.226.73.151 (talk) 04:28, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You know what, he actually mentioned the name of his high school in The Original Kings of Comedy, but I forget the name of the school. But I do remember him saying "Class of 1974", or as he says, "Seventy-fo'". User:Lesanichelle 19:39, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Birthyear

[edit]

Was Steve born in 1956 or 1957? The years keep getting changed back and forth. Some say he graduated high school in 1974, others say 1975. Which are the correct years? Hotwine8 01:41, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I recall him saying that he graduated high school in 1974, in the Original Kings of Comedy show. Keekee 19:07, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On a recent appearance in late January 2007 on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show", Steve Harvey mentioned that he had just turned 50. So, the year should be 1957. Hotwine8 18:08, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Sharvey.jpg

[edit]

Image:Sharvey.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Relationship with Tyler The Creator and Earl Sweatshirt?

[edit]

Page seems to say that he is the father of both Tyler the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt. The cited websites seem to state that the children are Jason and Wynton. This may be an act of vandalism (??) since Tyler the Creator is noted to have a public hatred for Steve Harvey. BetacommandBot (talk) 05:33, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Atheism controversies

[edit]

I've noticed a minor edit war going on between 2 editors over this section. I would like to add my two cents to the conversation, and encourage the editors to discuss the matter on the talk page, rather than engage in serial reversions.

For what it's worth, I agree with Absolon that Wikipedia policy, specifically WP:NPOV requires that the facts be reported without bias. I believe that the text of this section, as originally written, adhere to the policy. Absolon changed the header of the section from "Religious Intolerance" to "Atheism controversies." I accept that edit and do not contest the fact that the new header is more in line with policy.

However, Grumpy Atheist is also correct. The text shows that Mr Harvey is an unapologetic bigot and shows an unashamed ignorance of very basic science, of which he is clearly uninterested and scornful. He commits the fallacy of argument from ignorance, (ie. "I don't understand it, so it can't be true") and remains blissfully unaware of it. This man deserves to be mocked and ridiculed.

That being said, it must be left to the reader to come to that conclusion. Wikipedia should only report the facts, not the interpretation of those facts. So, dear editors, I would advise restraint from further editing of this section, unless further citations can be provided. Windyjarhead (talk) 18:27, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I remember seeing that interview on CNN, and his saying something to the effect off 'we come from monkeys, but monkeys are still around?'. The article doesn't mention that, but it does refer to his argument - atheists are just 'idiots'. - 124.191.144.183 (talk) 13:08, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Commenting on this as the thread was still unarchived: two sources in this section are suboptimal and are not attributed: one is a blog entry, the other an opinion category (op-ed) article. —PaleoNeonate22:59, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Even with the Daily Dot, this is not something we should add based on WEIGHT and NOTNEWS. If we add this, then let's add everything else he says that is covered by a reliable source. Not something likely to happen per NOT. --CNMall41 (talk) 16:50, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How can you say it was not news, the existance of the news article and the fact that it happened on CNN would indicate it was news, and its something thats brought up in nearly every discussion of Steve Harvey. There is a video on youtube discussing it with 3.2 million views, clearly it has weight, it is newsworthy, and its backed up by reputable sources https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuVeSRLi2Fw — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dragonfangxl (talkcontribs) 07:52, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What happened to this section?

[edit]

I came here to read about Steve Harvey because he's rumored to be about to be appointed to something by Donald Trump. But there's no mention in the article of anything Harvey might have done ever to have gotten any political or public notice. The only indication that he's ever done or said a word of any public significance is this trace of an argument over a section that does not exist today. It looks fishy. Misspelling hoax?

[edit]

There is a claim here that Harvey misspelled the country names of Columbia and the Philippines in a tweet apologizing for his Miss Universe mix-up. However, the source supporting the claim actually shows the tweet which has correct spelling of the names. This makes me wonder if the misspelling claim is just a hoax.Tvx1 21:51, 30 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Commentary in controversies

[edit]

It is always a contentious issue when dealing with "controversies" in Wikipedia so I will simply start a discussion here as opposed to bludgeoning the page itself. It seems like a lot of these are commentary he has made during his hosting career which is what he does for a living. For WP:NPOV and balance, what should/shouldn't be included? For instance, do we include his comments about the recent Super Bowl? Do we include his positive commentary? Who decides which is included since the term "controversy" is subjective? I don't really have an opinion at this point but would like to hear feedback from others. --CNMall41 (talk) 19:51, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Could anyone please fix his occupations around in the first sentence of the article? Yes, we all know that he’s a comedian, but he’s most notable a television presenter. Is there by any chance someone could fix that?

As shown here:

"is an American comedian, television presenter, actor, broadcaster, author, game show host and businessman" to "is an American television presenter, comedian, actor, broadcaster, author, game show host and businessman" 73.61.18.228 (talk) 21:14, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Done. His notability as a television presenter seems to be supported by how the reliable sources cited in this article describe him, as well being the bulk of his Career section and the first in his list of occupations in the infobox. Volteer1 (talk) 05:24, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"In 2014 he had roles in the films Johnson Family Vacation and You Got Served". This appears to be a mistyped year, as "Johnson Family Vacation" and "You Got Served" were both released in 2004. In the first sentence that talks about his occupations, there is an en dash that is missing between the word "stand up comedian", could anyone fix it by any chance? As shown here: "standup comedian" to "stand–up comedian"

P.S. Also, he still does stand–up comedy from time to time, because the term "former" should also be removed. 73.61.19.62 (talk) 20:35, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Partly done: I corrected the dash, although to be honest I'm not sure about his current careers, so I will allow another editor to make the judgement on the rest of your edit. I Am Chaos (talk) 23:29, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not done for the last bit. The article discusses Harvey's last stand-up gig, and while I found an article saying he'd like to return, I don't see any more news of this. IP, please provide reliable sources for this claim.  Ganbaruby! (talk) 00:55, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Its Family Feud South Africa NOT Family Feud Africa

[edit]

In the Introductory paragraph it states that Steve Harvey is a host of Family Feud Africa which is false.Steve is the host of Family Feud South Africa. Calling "Family Feud South Africa" Family Feud Africa is the same as calling "The X factor:UK" The X factor:Europe. It reads ignorant as you're comparing a production in a country to a whole continent. The second biggest continent at that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 105.184.225.106 (talk) 23:50, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
