[edit]Some images of the actual locomotives would be nice. If you have or can get some to add, please do. Legohead1my_talk 16:18, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Another St. Mary's Railroad?
[edit]As I've been sorting out commons images simply given the broad category "Rail vehicles of the United States," I saw at least three of them from the St. Mary's Railroad. But I don't think it's this St. Mary's Railroad. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 16:10, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

These were spotted in Illinois during the late-1980's.

Am I right?

Or is this the same railroad with a different insignia?
The reporting mark "SM" confirms that this is indeed a piece of rolling stock associated with that railroad, even if the logo is different. I should note that because of numerous mergers and acquisitions within the rail industry over the years, many railroads "own" the reporting marks of many of their predecessors, and so they often display logos very different from who currently owns the rolling stock or who it was owned by in the past. For example, you may see rolling stock that has an "ICG" (Illinois Central Gulf) reporting mark that has the logo of its new owner (Canadian National), or you may see rolling stock that has a "BO" (Baltimore & Ohio) reporting mark even though it later became part of Chessie System and then CSX Transportation. At some point, the boxcar in the images you shared were owned by the same railroad as described in the article because of the "SM" reporting mark. Why the logo is different--I'm not sure.
