fix the charting

[edit]

as much as i like no doubt, i'm pretty sure they didn't hit #5

Thanks for pointing that out. It looks like someone had just used the highest position it took on the Billboard charts since it hit #5 on Modern Rock Tracks instead of Hot 100 Airplay. —ShadowHalo 16:50, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Sm nd.JPG

[edit]

Image:Sm nd.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:37, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Release dates

[edit]

Several incorrect inferences were made about this single's release date by a previous editor. I attempted to correct them in my update today.

First of all, the 1995 Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart is an airplay survey which allows album cuts. A song appearing in a late 1995 edition of that chart does not necessarily mean that there was a single available in 1995.

Second, the archived Amazon MP3 download page that was cited for a November 1995 release clearly said October 6, 1995. Regardless, Amazon's music store is absolutely not a reliable source for the release date of the CD singles, nor even for the MP3 itself. Amazon started selling MP3s in 2007. 1995 is simply when the Tragic Kingdom album came out, and ࡅ1995 appears on the single releases because the recording first appeared on that 1995 album.

Third, as evident on Discogs, the only edition of the single without 1996 or 1997 artwork copyrights on it is the Australian CD, where the ©1995 date for the artwork seems to be an error. Adjacent catalog numbers and all worldwide releases are from well into 1996. Likewise, "Sailin' On" is indicated on the Australian single as being from the Music for Our Mother Ocean album, which came out in mid-1996. Furthermore, the old No Doubt website that was cited looks like a fan site that was given an official blessing, as often happened in the 1990s, and it only really says that there is a 1995 copyright on the Australian CD, not that this CD was actually released in 1995. —mjb (talk) 17:42, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
