Need better translation

[edit]

Need better translation of these genres:

  • 主要用于京韵大鼓 (Beijing dagu?)
(Tianjin new tunes?)
(Shandong qin book?)
(Northeast dagu)
(Hubei song?)
(Shaoxing lotus flower falls?)
(Shanxi er ren?)
(Inner Mongolia er ren?)
(Beijing opera derived drama from ballads?)
(Hebei Pi Ying?)
(Henan two clamps traditional entertainment involving talking and singing and the drama?) Badagnani 04:24, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(Hebei Pi Ying) I think could be Hebei shadow theatre (pi ying xi), (山西二人台 Shanxi er ren tai): Shanxi ballads. I got this info from a CD liner notes. LDHan 00:50, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, thank you! "Er ren" is literally "two people" so I think it's some type of 2-man (or 2-woman) narrative, in dialogue. Not sure how to render it in English as "ballads" doesn't get across that it's a 2-person performance. There are "er ren" narrative singing styles in many Chinese provinces. Yeah I agree, translation can be a problem, I think many Chinese musical terms like "errentai", "dagu", "xiaoqu", or even "Jingju" cannot be accurately translated, it might be better to use the Chinese terms followed by a brief description in brackets. Shanxi er ren tai (Shanxi narrative singing/dialogue performed by two persons), I'm not familiar with Shanxi er ren tai so the description is just a guess. Similarly, Jingju (Beijing traditional theatre) instead of "Beijing opera", or erhu (Chinese 2 string bowed instrument) not "Chinese violin". LDHan 03:01, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

unnecessary disambiguation hatnote

[edit]

"There is no need to add disambiguation links to a page whose name already clearly distinguishes itself from the generic term." (see Wikipedia:Disambiguation). Sihu (instrument) is not the primary topic of Sihu and Sihu does not redirect here. I don't see any need to add disambig hatnote to this article. I propose to remove that note. --Pengyanan (talk) 20:55, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Made up name Khuurchir

[edit]

I can't find any reference anywhere in Mongolian to Хуурчир. Since the Mongolian name of the Huqin is Хуучир (Khuuchir, without the "r"), someone apparently confused the two instruments and/or their names. Or are two considered to be the same in Mongolian? They seem to be played in exactly the same way, with the second pair of strings simply added to make the sound stronger. If that should indeed be the case, then the two articles should probably be merged. --193.134.170.35 (talk) 13:44, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
