Hi, @PSA! I'll be reviewing this article at the end of the month, I guess. I know I'm leaving too many articles waiting, but I don't like seeing so many GANs without review page. Also, to take a risk and let go of my nerves. Best, Santi (talk) 15:19, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking this review, @Pollosito. Please take your time. I will return here in a week to remind you PSA 🏕️🪐 (please make some noise...) 00:31, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

As the reviewer has gone on wikibreak, I have followed the steps at WP:GAN/I#N4a, and returned this nomination to the queue. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 14:29, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
@PSA: A thousand apologies for the delay. Without further ado, let's get started! Santi (talk) 02:49, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
Media
[edit]- Only if you consider it necessary can you put images in the article. I suggest because I find it a bit tiring to read a long article with little multimedia content. Santi (talk) 03:00, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
Background
[edit]- "many forthcoming videos would feature the same creative decision" In that context according to source, I guess it's better "tradition". Santi (talk) 02:49, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Not done. this feels like personal preference; I associate "tradition" often with something cultural, which does not fit here.
SZA had posted on Twitter two months prior to say that she was fine with having "Shirt" as a title, and she eventually picked it as the song's official name.
With the first I don't have problem, but the second needs to be verified better, in my opinion. Santi (talk) 02:49, 4 June 2024 (UTC)- does it though? i mean considering we're looking at an article called "shirt", the second part is already an implicit fact. PSA 🏕️🪐 (please make some noise...) 03:05, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Ok. I will agree with that point. Sometimes I get to be super literal and come to very strange conclusions like in this case, a thousand apologies. So this section is passed. Santi (talk) 03:10, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

Music and production
[edit]- According to what I understand in the source, trap corresponds to "Blind", not "Shirt", or there is something I don't understand here. Santi (talk) 03:26, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
'Blind' traded in the 808s and trap flare for a bare-bones composition with a simple acoustic guitar accompanying her haunting voice.
"traded...for" here means that the "trap flare" was "replaced with" an acoustic guitar backing . PSA 🏕️🪐 (please make some noise...) 03:39, 4 June 2024 (UTC)- Aaaa ok, sorry for my literalness (a bit embarassed right now [LOL?]). The repetition of "808s" said something to me in that moment. Santi (talk) 03:41, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
when COVID-19 was announced as a pandemic in March 2020.
According to ref 34 (in fact, reuse it in this sentence), it's "before". Santi (talk) 18:44, 5 June 2024 (UTC)- Kept. Darkchild says in the podcast episode: "
Literally, the first...I think our session was like the first day of the announcement of the pandemic, actually. Just started that day, and SZA was pretty freaked out...'Shirt' was actually probably the first or second song that we did together that same day in 2020.
" COVID-19 was announced as a pandemic by the WHO on 11 March 2020, whereas SZA tweeted that she was with Darkchild on 13 March.
- Kept. Darkchild says in the podcast episode: "
- Regarding ref 33, I can't find any clear reference to what the article says in its written part, so I'll assume it's in the attached podcast episode, which I didn't manage to fully listen to due to time. Santi (talk) 18:44, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- If you go to the archive link and skip to around the 06:00 mark, you'll hear Darkchild talk about "Shirt", which is pretty much all the stuff that is said about the song on the episode. PSA 🏕️🪐 (please make some noise...) 01:41, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- @PSA: Thanks for the help. I never got to that minute XD, with good reason. Santi (talk) 02:13, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

Lyrics
[edit]- Passed. Santi (talk) 16:29, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
Release
[edit]- Refs 49—54; 56—58: archiving, authorship and linking website/magazine/work missing. Regarding 53, the magazine Consequence isn't mentioned. Santi (talk) 00:18, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- This is done, but please remember that these comments, apart from the last concern, are not necessary for GAN reviews.
Critical reception
[edit]- Just in case. Where in ref 61 can what was said be confirmed? I think I already got the keys, but I just want to confirm so I don't make a mistake with my reading. Santi (talk) 18:36, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- The spotify embed for "Shirt" appears under the header "REPEAT ME"
Accolades
[edit]- I'm surprised the song only had those two nominations from a single ceremony; interesting. I would suggest that you change the ref to one that announces both nominees and winners in one place, because with ref 62, the only thing you would be saying in my opinion is that they are still pending. Santi (talk) 00:48, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- Done
- I'll be honest. I don't like the style of the board at all; To me it looks very old. However, based on your previous approved GAs and other articles and lists with such status, I will pass by. I will suffer a little, but I will recognize that it is also valid. Santi (talk) 00:48, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- This is merged, but I agree this is an optional comment
Commercial performance
[edit]- Wikilink East Bay Times in ref 63. Santi (talk) 18:40, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- Archiving missing in ref 66. Santi (talk) 00:11, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- Wikilink to Billboard and archiving missing in ref 68. Santi (talk) 00:11, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- Done all of the above, but see my replies to your comments for the Release section
Replies above @Santi PSA 🏕️🪐 (please make some noise...) 12:52, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- @PSA: Thank you for attending the advices and replying me. Based on my most recent GAN, I understand that in some ways they are necessary. Santi (talk) 15:28, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Pollosito, I understand many reviewers do this, but my point stands. Some simply have a review preference, and it is your choice to stand your ground or implement their suggestions, but the fact remains that their preferences do not always align with what the criteria actually say. PSA 🏕️🪐 (please make some noise...) 03:40, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- @PSA: As an autistic, sometimes I don't measure how I say things, so I apologize in advance if I made you feel invalid. I know that doesn't exist as a GA criterion, but, as you say, it's my preference based on my own experience. I just wanted to get that across. Santi (talk) 14:54, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Santi: I'm glad you understand. It is not about feeling invalidated though; it is about whether your reviews are compliant with standards. And you should not let your preferences get in the way, especially when you've been told multiple times in the same review it's not a necessary comment. Anywho, my replies to the remaining comments are below. PSA 🏕️🪐 (please make some noise...) 08:26, 13 June 2024 (UTC)

Music video
[edit]- I think it's better to use
{{Cite web}}
instead of{{Cite AV media}}
in ref 76. That template also has the Publisher via parameter. Santi (talk) 21:43, 12 June 2024 (UTC)- Not done. Preference. There is no meaningful difference between the two templates.
- Archiving missing: 75, 77, 79, 80 Santi (talk) 21:43, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- Authorship missing: 80 Santi (talk) 21:43, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- Pipe missing: 80, 81 Santi (talk) 21:43, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- Done all three.
Live performances
[edit]- In ref 87, change authorship to "Ana Lamond". Likewise, change "Clash Magazine Music News, Reviews & Interviews" to "Clash" and pipe it to Clash (magazine). Santi (talk) 04:00, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- Done
Credits
[edit]- Just a piece of advice. I would suggest you cite the credits to their original source, it could be the liner notes or some other source. Santi (talk) 04:00, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- credits are assumed to be cited to the album's liner notes, which WP:ALBUMSTYLE tells me usually does not need an explicit citation
Charts
[edit]- According to source, the song peaked at number 61 in Portugal due to a re-entry. Santi (talk) 04:00, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- Amended
- If you can, would you modify ref 97 a little so that it points directly to the week it peaked? Santi (talk) 04:00, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- No - the explanation is that the song charted downward from there and the website already shows where it peaked.
Certifications
[edit]- I couldn't access the certification in Australia because I'm supposed to ask the administrator for permission to access the document, so I trust you because the rest went well. Santi (talk) 04:00, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
Release history
[edit]- WTF (sorry for the expresion, but...). Reference that "confirms" the release of the single directs to "I Hate U". But hey, it's a little mistake. Santi (talk) 04:00, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- Whoops! this is a goofy mistake. thank you for pointing this out. I corrected the link
