Moakler and Barker were divorced. It's mentioned in the main article. Caden S (talk) 07:48, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality Disputed

[edit]

This article is one of the bigger smear jobs on Wikipedia. If I didn't know better by reading this article, I'd guess Shanna Moakler was a Republican! from cherry-picked phrases like: "Moakler enjoyed some aspects of her reign as Miss USA, such as celebrity pool tournaments.[2] However, she has complained that the experience required her to "sign autographs at places like Bob’s Home Furnishing Rentals. She was also forced to live with a pageant chaperone, who made sure she dressed and acted appropriately.", and

"She also praised his intelligence and flare for history and philosophy. Moakler has disclosed that Idol was "horrible in bed".

How do those quotes lead you to the conclusion that she's Republican?

Too Much Information?

[edit]

The point of Wikipedia is not to be an archive of sordid, detailed information pertaining to a celebrity's relationship. Some of this article's content, particularly the section and subsections for this actress's relationship with Travis Barker, reads like parts of it were extracted from a gossip column. 207.155.87.21 (talk) 15:18, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with you and whatever it is that you are smoking. This article is good and it's not focused entirely on Shanna Moakler's personal relationship with Travis Barker (as you claim). What parts exactly are you not happy with in the section on her relationship to her ex-husband? I need you to give me examples in order for me to understand what you're trying to say. Your post is far too vague and it's not helpful because it lacks clarity. I have busted my balls editing this article on Shanna Moakler. I've worked hard on it. You claiming that some parts from her marriage read like a gossip column is not true. Reliable sources have reported on her relationship with Barker, and only reliable sources have been used. Caden S (talk) 20:29, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I recommend removing the entire "Relationships" section. Who someone has dated is really not appropriate for an encyclopedia. You'd never find a section like that in Britannica or World Book. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a gossip column. --JHP (talk) 02:03, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review

[edit]
This review is transcluded from Talk:Shanna Moakler/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Hello. I will be doing the GA review for this article. Here are some suggestions for improvement:

  • The lead doesn't comply with WP:LEAD. It should be at 2 or 3 paragraphs summarizing the main points of the article. No new information should be in the lead (ex: vegetarianism). Also, since the article focuses so much on her relationships, more of that should also be in the lead.
  • Image:Shanna Moakler and Dick Clark at Miss Teen USA.jpg and Image:Screenshot of Shanna Moakler on Pacific Blue.jpg need fair use rationales, or they will be tagged for deletion.
  • Months and years should not be separated by the word "of". Ex: September of 2000
  • The jet crash has very little to do with Moakler herself. I'd delete most of it except maybe a brief description and the info about her almost being on the plane. I'd also put it in the Reconciliation section whether than a separate section.
  • The following sources need to be replaced by more reliable sources: TMZ, Celebrity Wonder, IMDB, Celebspin, Perez Hilton, Planet Gossip, Reality TV World...they can stay if you can prove their fact checking.
  • These refs are dead: 13
  • These refs need to be formatted: 46 and 47
  • When was she in the musical group? What became of it?

That's it for now. I'll let you work on these before adding anything new. I'll put the article on hold for seven days to allow for improvements. Nikki311 18:15, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. Per the note on my talk page, this nomination has been withdrawn. Nikki311 22:31, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Miss USA resignation

[edit]

The article leaves the impression that Moakler resigned because of the risque photos issue, when the supporting link makes it clear that the primary reason has to do with the same-sex marriage issue. That one phrase is misleading, so I have taken it out. For now. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 23:08, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the source cited doesn't say that gay marriage is the reason she resigned. The US magazine article and Moakler herself are both very careful not to say why she resigned from the pageant. AniMatedraw 23:15, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(ec)Which is why the article is on shaky ground trying to infer a reason as to why she resigned. Logic would tell you, in any case, that it's not likely to be about the racy photos. The article says she wants to be a good role model for her kids. But she herself was a centerfold. So it can't be about photos. Meanwhile, the article says she's going to take up the political torch opposing Prejean's stance on the same-sex marriage issue. The most likely inference from the linked article is that it's over that issue, not the photos. Hence, mentioning the photos in that sentence is misleading. All you know for sure is that she resigned following Trump's decision to let her keep the crown. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 23:22, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Moakler was on record as a supporter of gay marriage well before her resignation. The only thing that changed was that Donald Trump decided that the modeling photos of Prejean would not cause Prejean to be dethroned as Miss California. Moakler may not have had cause to question the photos by Prejean from your point of view, but in reality she did so multiple times, drawing a distinction that Prejean didn't report the photos in advance. 72.220.85.235 (talk) 06:22, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, so I've just read that source. Here it is in its entirety (formatted to take up less space):
Former Miss USA Shanna Moakler has been pretty vocal about what she thinks of Miss California Carrie Prejean's views on gay marriage. But now, Moakler, who is executive director of the Miss California USA pageant, is showing how she feels by keeping her mouth shut. Moakler, along with Miss USA 2006 first runner-up Tamiko Nash and last year's titleholder Raquel Beezley were in a photo studio last night being shot by Adam Bouska for NOH8, a campaign to support efforts to overturn Proposition 8...
The three women were shot together with duct tape over their mouths, a symbol of their voices not being heard, and "NOH8" painted on their cheeks. The project was started by Bouska, 25, and his partner, Jeff Parshley, 28, in November after the passage of Prop 8 outlawed same-sex unions in the state.
"We never expected to have so many beauty queens participate. The whole campaign, obviously, is not a direct message to Miss California, but now she happened to have put herself in the line of fire," Bouska says about his newest pic of the Moakler et al. "If Carrie is going to go out there with her message, then we have to go out there and make sure the voices of these girls are heard," he adds. "And that they are what Miss USA should stand for, too."
Another portrait shows 1997's Miss Universe Brook Lee, originally from Hawaii, wearing a white wedding dress and a sash that reads "Miss Equality." With or without duct tape, these beauties are sending the message.
As you can see, this source says absolutely nothing about Moakler's departure at all (if I'm just being dense and missing it, please point it out). In fact, Moakler resigned because of the nude photos: "The turning point for me, I guess, [said Moakler] was when I was watching the Today show and she was sitting there continuing to lie [about the photos]," the former Miss USA continued [1]. This is confirmed in a CNN article:
Galanos: You're talking about the pictures?
Moakler: Yes, the pictures. I couldn't stand by it anymore, and on top of it, the lying continues. Our contracts as state licensees were basically made invalid. For me, it was just too much.
Galanos: When you say the lies, are you talking about the pictures where she says it was a windy day and the wind blew her top open?
Moakler: Yes, in that particular point. It's such a complicated story with so many factors weighing in. For me, it was always about the contract. [2].
Exploding Boy (talk) 23:21, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Then it was about the apparent violation of the contract, which Trump ignored. Then you need to use that as the source, not the given source which says nothing about the reason. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 23:25, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the violation being the semi-nude photos. It wasn't my source to begin with, but to avoid the appearance of edit warring I'd appreciate it if you'd make the necessary changes. Exploding Boy (talk) 23:29, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I made a change to try to make the context as clear as I understand it to be. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 23:44, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I also just reverted after some redlink accused me of "vandalism". Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 23:59, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Executive director for Miss Nevada USA pageant

[edit]

The information about Shanna being co-director of the Miss California USA, Miss New Hampshire USA and New York USA pageants is outdated. Currently, Shanna is the executive director for the Miss Nevada USA pageant. I will try to find a source to reference before updating the entry; however, I thought posting the info here would be beneficial for accuracy in the meantime. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.9.88.75 (talk) 00:50, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reference notations need to be redone

[edit]

Recently, I added an update to this entry with a reference (#57); however, the edit I made has now caused the reference notations to appear out of numerical order and 2 reference notations have the same number (#8). Can someone please help me in correcting the reference notations' numbering? Thank You. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.9.88.75 (talk) 05:06, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
