The result of the move request was: No consensus yet. Wikipedia is not a WP:CRYSTALBALL, but it seems likely that his notability is only going to skyrocket, and I suppose that in about July (or maybe once the new season starts) this discussion, if revisited, will likely lead to a consensus that he's the primary topic. There's no current consensus though. Wait till he's taken in the draft.(non-admin closure) Red Slash 19:21, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
Seth Jones (ice hockey) → Seth Jones – I believe that the ice hockey player is now the primary topic, as his article has received over 100,000 page views this year, whereas the political scientist has received only 6,000 page views this year (and some of those people were likely looking for the hockey player). Given that he is a likely top three pick (and a strong possibility of being #1 overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft), the hockey player is likely to retain his high page views. The political scientist's article would then need to be moved to a title with a disambiguation, maybe something along the lines of Seth Jones (political scientist). - Oppose—this competes against thousands of other people by the same name. It's not just about high page views; it's about clarity for readers-in-search, before they arrive at the page. Tony (talk) 13:27, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- There are no thousands of other Seth Jones articles; we only have two articles for people named Seth Jones: the politicial scientist at Seth Jones, and the hockey player here. Beyond that, about your argument about clarity for readers in search, that more than 100,000 people have viewed the hockey player's article this year would support the fact that they would expect to find him when typing in "Seth Jones". - Question - can this story please be updated sourced into the article Seth Jones could become the first black player selected No. 1 overall in NHL Draft history. was he? Otherwise Seth Jones (disambiguation) the most notable Seth Jones in Gbooks is a dime novel, apparently very important dime novel. In ictu oculi (talk) 13:44, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- Draft hasn't happened yet. Doesn't happen until June. -DJSasso (talk) 13:48, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- Support I have gone back and forth on this. Disambiguation despite Tony's opinion is about the page people are most likely trying to go to when they search for a topic. At this point in time with the hockey player already far outpacing the hits of the political activist and those numbers likely to increase if he is drafted #1 and when he begins his professional career. I have to say he is clearly the primary topic. Being that there are no other people named that on this wiki other than the two the thousands of other people by the same name are irrelevant. The usual hatnote to the disambiguation page at the top of the page will solve the situation for anyone trying to go elsewhere. -DJSasso (talk) 13:52, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- Comment there's an article at the destination, what do you propose to do with it? This is an improperly formmated multimove request, and you haven't said what you want to do to it (what name it should receive). -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 17:56, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- How about Seth Jones (political scientist) or something along those lines? Canuck89 (what's up?) 23:15, May 1, 2013 (UTC)
- Support Textbook WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. There's every reason to believe the political scientist's pageviews have been inflated by readers looking for the hockey player. There are Wikipedians who seem to want every article to have a disambiguator, but this is contrary to policy and practice. --BDD (talk) 04:11, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. Not a well known person outside of his sport. Coming across the name alone, it is unreasonable to expect a general audience to recognise who this is, even if they have heard of him. This disambiguation improves the ease of use of the encyclopedia. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 09:37, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has only two articles on people named Seth Jones, and as I noted above, the pageview statistics show most people associate the name with the hockey player. Canuck89 (chat with me) 18:56, May 12, 2013 (UTC)

Figure skating vs. Power skating
[edit]The currently cited sources say Jones took "skating" lessons from a figure-skating instructor as a child. That doesn't necessarily mean he took figure-skating lessons, per se. It is much more common for young hockey players to take power skating lessons. Indeed, that's what Sakic says he recommended to Jones' dad. [1] [2] I'm not sure if Jones actually did take power skating lessons, but given Sakic's quotes the current wording is dubious. I've changed the wording to simply read "skating lessons." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.196.188.160 (talk) 21:52, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

– (One decade later ... also, still surprisingly few articles with this name) It may now be clearer there's a primary topic here, and it's the five-time NHL All-Star with 94% of the all-time pageviews (833,000 vs 52,000). Worth noting there's no standalone Seth Jones (dime novel) yet, said to be "one of the best selling novels of the late 19th century", but with maybe questionable enduring notability

- Support Clear case of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. The political scientist is a minor figure compared to the hockey player (in terms of page views and notability among the general public). Canuck89 (Speak with me) or visit my user page 04:52, October 3, 2023 (UTC)
