Merger proposal

- The result of this discussion was to merge Second Empire architecture into Napoleon III style. Paris91 (talk) 07:14, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
I propose to merge Second Empire architecture into Napoleon III style. I think that the content in the Second Empire architecture article can easily be explained in the context of Napoleon III style, and the Napoleon III style article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Second Empire architecture will not cause any problems as far as article size is concerned. Napoleon III style → Second Empire style – The nomenclature "Second Empire Style" is more common than "Napoleon III style" (which are used both in the lede), hence I believe it should be moved. The Encyclopedia Britannica uses "Second Empire Style"[1], a quick search online shows than even typing "Napoleon III style" brings up mostly pages dedicated to "Second Empire Style", and that on Google, there are twice as many results for "Second Empire Style" than for "Napoleon III style". Additionally, the category is called Category:Second Empire architecture and all other pages that talk about this style use the "Second Empire Style" (see Second Empire architecture in Europe and Second Empire architecture in the United States and Canada. IN particular, I'd like to highlight the difference between searching Napoleon II style on Google Scholar and Second Empire style on Google Scholar . The same is true for JSTOR, with many more results and pages for SES than NIIIS. The same is also true when you search for "Napoleon III architecture" (which produces 2k results) and "Second Empire architecture" (which produced 60k results). I will be WP:BOLD, and to the move, but happy to undo it and discuss if there is opposition.

- Support. Proposed name is far more common and recognisable. But don't do it yourself, let whoever closes the discussion do it. That is the process. Andrewa (talk) 08:08, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
