Move to "Sebastian Aho (Finnish ice hockey player)"
[edit]People are more likely to know their nationalities than their birth years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BlueSwede92 (talk • contribs) 21:52, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
- That's against the WikiProject's determined format. Read WP:NCIH#Players. – Sabbatino (talk) 17:16, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: moved. Consensus that there is no WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for this name. (non-admin closure) ModernDayTrilobite (talk • contribs) 20:02, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
Sebastian Aho → Sebastian Aho (ice hockey, born 1997) – Unclear if this is the PT over Sebastian Aho (ice hockey, born 1996). Moving to make way for a disambiugation page on the two subjects with the same name. Natg 19 (talk) 18:22, 23 January 2023 (UTC)— Relisting. Jerium (talk) 18:48, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: If they are both notable for ice hockey, then do we even need that as a disambiguator in the titles? Why not change both to Sebastian Aho (born 1996) and Sebastian Aho (born 1997)? BappleBusiness[talk] 18:56, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
- This is a joke yes? In ictu oculi (talk) 09:45, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose The Finnish forward is a two-time NHL All-Star, whereas the Swedish defenceman is much less accomplished. Justified primary topic. 162 etc. (talk) 20:18, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
- Ohh, I read the article wrong, I thought the Swedish player also was an All-Star, but it appears he was an AHL All-Star, not NHL. Will still keep the RM open for further comment, but seems that the Finnish player may indeed be primary. Natg 19 (talk) 21:08, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nomination. The two players were born within a year of each other and may be easily confused, including malplaced incoming links which flow to one or the other. It would indeed seem less confusing to create a Sebastian Aho disambiguation page that would list Sebastian Aho (ice hockey, born 1996) as well as Sebastian Aho (ice hockey, born 1997). —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 02:16, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
- Support, no PRIMARY. Sure, one player maybe is better, but not overwhelmingly so and page views are relatively tight.--Ortizesp (talk) 07:23, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
- Almost 75% in favour of Sebastian Aho, which is well over the 50% threshold described at WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. [1] 162 etc. (talk) 17:54, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
- I don't think a 50 % threshold has been established. I've only seen something like that used in pages with one page having more pageviews than several others combined. In cases with only 2 entries, I don't think something having 51 per cent vs another with 49 makes it PRIMARY. A 75/25 split isn't enough to me either, especially since the hockey player born 1996 often times gets more page views. Ortizesp (talk) 19:37, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: not moved. (non-admin closure) ~~ Jessintime (talk) 03:33, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- Sebastian Aho (ice hockey, born 1997) → Sebastian Aho (ice hockey forward)
- Sebastian Aho (ice hockey, born 1996) → Sebastian Aho (ice hockey defenceman)
– more intuitive disambiguation (see also WP:NCPDAB, WP:NCDAB); prior discussion has referenced WP:NCIH Wracking talk! 22:52, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- Support as proposer. With two ice hockey players born a year apart, birth year is not a helpful disambiguator (WP:NCPDAB). (Finnish ice hockey player), (Swedish ice hockey player) could also help, but get a bit long IMO. WikiProject-level guidelines (WP:NCIH) dictate the current format, though I believe the NCIH guidelines are unhelpful in this case and can be overridden (WP:IAR, WP:CONLEVEL). The names of these pages have been discussed prior: 2017 suggestion 1 & suggestion 2, 2020 unsuccessful move request (by blocked sock), 2023 successful move request. Apologies if I missed anything. Wracking talk! 22:53, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose WP:NCIH is clear that we use birth year. WP:AINTBROKE also applies here. Flibirigit (talk) 23:23, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:NCIH. Point No. 3 there under biographies states "Add the player's year of birth. For instance, Greg Adams (ice hockey, born 1963) and Greg Adams (ice hockey, born 1960)". So, no, we shouldn't move this article. Masterhatch (talk) 23:33, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- Comment If the concern is disambiguating between the two Ahos, it shouldn't a concern as that's what short descriptions are for. Masterhatch (talk) 23:42, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per NCIH. The Kip 16:17, 13 April 2024 (UTC)
- Move back to Sebastian Aho per my comments at the previous discussion. 162 etc. (talk) 16:27, 13 April 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose with WP:NCIH. Cfls (talk) 21:27, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per Masterhatch. Deadman137 (talk) 22:09, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Comment I've always opposed the WP:NCIH policy, as I think birth years are awkward to use as dabs, and aren't common in other areas of Wikipedia. But I think the more natural DAB in this case would be "Finnish ice hockey player" and "Swedish ice hockey player", as that's the thing that distinguishes them the most.-- Earl Andrew - talk 18:19, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose – Per above. Svartner (talk) 12:17, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
