Update Strickland's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu belt color to "black." You can use the following as a source: https://www.mmamania.com/2023/8/29/23850500/ufc-293-sean-strickland-denounces-jiu-jitsu-ahead-israel-adesanya-fight-it-doesnt-work-mma TopSecretRavenclaw (talk) 02:46, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
- Not done: It may be a black belt, but according to the subject, the belt "is somewhere in my trunk" ostensibly meaning he no longer wears that black belt, which would make any claim that he had a black belt as not technically accurate. If the claim were modified to indicate that he has a black belt in the trunk of his car, then it would align with the information in the source reference. Spintendo 00:06, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

You need to take out the last sentence in the 1st paragraph. Strickland is not rated 7th! He is the champion 2600:6C47:A3F0:7070:6D1A:5C89:4EAA:92D (talk) 06:16, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

While Strickland claims to have overcome his previous neo-nazi beliefs, he still holds distinctly homophobic and transphobic beliefs. Add subsection under personal life for comments about women. Write Strickland has made a number of controversial comments about women and women's rights. He has advocated for removing the right of women to vote. He has also advocated for removing women from the workforce, and said that they need to be "put back in the kitchen".
([1][2][3][4]) He has also commented negatively about women's MMA. In an interview, he said "Sure, have women’s MMA, have it be a thing. I don’t like to watch it. I don’t think most people like to watch it. If the female MMA was to separate from the male MMA no-one’s going to watch that shit".
[5] Reasoning: it's covered by sources and continues to spark controversy. 104.232.119.107 (talk) 03:50, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
- @104.232.119.107 Are these source reliable? I seldom added negative points to WP:BLP -Lemonaka 03:28, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
- The Big Lead, MMA Fighting, Sports Illustrated, SB Nation, The Independent (reliable in WP:RSP)
- You can scrap the first and fourth sources. This should be enough imo. If you'd like more, please let me know; I can find more sources. 104.232.119.107 (talk) 22:39, 15 June 2024 (UTC)

- I think this has to be re-written and not necessary. You do not need to put every controversial thing a public figure says into their Wikipedia page to disparage their name. Putting that in the header is completely unnecessary. Marty2Hotty (talk) 16:53, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Agree. I dont know anyone in the MMA community who even talks about this stuff. The guy makes a living saying crazy stuff... but so do a lot of people who dont have a list of every tweet theyve ever sent on their page Nswix (talk) 17:07, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- You've seen the news sources, those people have talked about it. If other people don't have similar statements logged (not every tweet, just ones that receive news coverage), then we should include those in their articles too. seefooddiet (talk) 17:08, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Out.com, Sportskeeda and Thewrap.com? Really hard-hitting stuff. Nswix (talk) 17:11, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Sports Illustrated, MMAFighting.com, The Independent? Really hard-hitting stuff. Just about as hard-hitting as other sources in the article. seefooddiet (talk) 17:13, 18 August 2024 (UTC)

- I'm willing to budge on including it in the lead because the article is a BLP, but including it in the body I am firm on. The information is being cited to a reliable source, and is notable enough for coverage in the news; that's more than enough for any other piece of information.
- See Albert Einstein:
Of Chinese people, he wrote that "even the children are spiritless and look obtuse... It would be a pity if these Chinese supplant all other races. For the likes of us the mere thought is unspeakably dreary"
- I wrote this bit and included it. I didn't write it because I hate Einstein or am trying to smear him, I wrote it because it's true and notable. And Sean's statements are true and notable too.
- If there's continued disagreement, I will go for a WP:Request for comment. seefooddiet (talk) 17:10, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- This shouldn't be in the lead at all, he is an MMA fighter, not a social/political commentator — Preceding unsigned comment added by FMSky (talk • contribs) 08:38, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- That's not a valid argument. Bill Cosby was an entertainer, but there's more than just his entertainment career discussed in the lead. seefooddiet (talk) 08:48, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

Change the statement in personal life about his friendship with Chris Curtis, as they are no longer close. They recently had some sort of falling out on account of very different training styles. Both of them talked about this at some length on X. Everyone is very sad about it but no one is surprised.
I would instead add that he is now a close training partner with Light Heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, who recently asserted that he would not go back down to Middleweight on account of his relationship with Strickland. CutJuJu (talk) 14:55, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- It took me time to find sources.

- I'd say just remove it altogether. Lots of fighters are friends with other fighters. It's not particularly notable. Nswix (talk) 16:42, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Unreliable sources per WP:RSP. 𝚈𝚘𝚟𝚝 (𝚝𝚊𝚕𝚔𝚟𝚝) 17:15, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

[edit]I'm currently doing an SWViewer run and I notice that there is an IP who appears to be stating that this individual is a self-professed neo-nazi. I'm not immediately able to find sourcing that it is true, and I do think we should probably remove that language unless such sourcing is provided. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 04:44, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
